Having just finished medical school, I'm too well aware of the rigorous academic demands placed on students these days. While having come far, I've certainly struggled and I honestly believe that struggle is what makes me the perfect tutor. Oftentimes, teachers choose a subject to teach because they hey an affinity for it. However, this sometimes makes it hard for them to relate to students who don't grasp the material as well. Having completed most upper level science and math coursework, in addition to my medical school courses, I know just how hard they can be and they certainly did not come to me naturally. I had to work extremely hard to grasp many of the concepts but I eventually came up with strategies to tackle the material. Having struggled myself, I honestly feel I can relate better to other students in a similar predicament and therefore can better tutor them.As I mentioned before, I just finished medical school and I'm awaiting my residency match. I'm planning on pursuing orthopaedic surgery. In my free time I enjoy playing/watching basketball, working out, reading, enjoying movies and great restaurants with friends. I'm extremely hardworking, patients, and would love to help you overcome your academic struggles to the best of my ability.

I am a current undergraduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, located in Philadelphia PA. I am pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, while also following the pre-medical track. My tutoring experience has mainly involved improving reading and writing English, though this is not all that I am limited to. I tutor a broad range of subjects including, algebra, calculus, and SAT prep. When working with students, I make it my mission to make sessions enjoyable, which means there will be a lot of work but a lot of fun as well. I have experienced the stress of school and college prep in this current time, so don't hesitate to ask questions that go beyond the books!

"Education Is Not the Filling of a Pail, But the Lighting of a Fire" - W.B. YeatsThis philosophy has always guided my approach to teaching. I believe that getting a student from A to B is certainly critical, but what is even more essential is the 'aha' moment when a difficult problem clicks, a love for writing comes about, a passion is ignited, and/or inspiration is born. This is what makes a student a lifelong learner who doesn't shy away from a challenge or the unknown. I like to inject fun and humor into learning and am the product of some really excellent educators who I like to think inform my teaching style. My tutoring experience began nearly four years ago when I began working with an organization that helps prepare under-served students for the SAT and the college admissions process. I enjoyed breaking students' preconceived notions about what they could and could not do, and I value the interpersonal relationships with my students that I was able to create and maintain to this day.I graduated with my undergrad in 2012 with degrees in International Relations and Spanish, and I was awarded Distinguished Honors in International Relations. I also minored in Latin American Studies and studied abroad for a semester in Madrid.

I have loved writing and reading since I was a little girl. However, it wasn't until I started volunteer as a tutor while pursuing my bachelor's that I found my passion for teaching. After I graduated from Tennessee State University, I started working as a private English tutor. I specialize in helping students connect the readings to the skills they need: critical reading and thinking. I work at the student's pace in order to give them the education style they cannot receive in a crowded classroom.
