I received my bachelors degree from Washington University in St. Louis, where I majored in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology, an interdisciplinary major studying the brain and mind from a variety of perspectives.While I tutor a variety of subjects, I am most passionate about helping students with standardized test prep (MCAT and SAT) and public speaking. My favorite part of teaching is seeing the "light bulb" above a student's head when they have been struggling with a concept and finally get it.I taught a high school classroom of high functioning students with autism in a therapeutic school for over four years. My teaching experience was very enjoyable, but highly frustrating as well. We worked hard to change behaviors and motivate progress academically and socially. Unfortunately we did not always have the support of families, and in order to really progress expectations in the home and at school need to be on the same page.I look forward to working with students who really want to learn. My favorite and best subject is math, and I like to take a problem solving approach to teaching it. Many students struggle with word problems, but they are the only kind of problems that we ever run across in the real world, and with a good foundation of problem solving skills, the things that you learn in math can translate to many other facets of life.

I enjoy playing chess and golf. I am very competitive at both although I have been humbled more than a few times. I like to add fun and humor in just about every situation, when appropriate. Combine those traits with learning and we have creative platform for an exceptional learning environment.My tutoring strategy is to make learning fun and take the fright out of accounting. I want students to be able to use appropriate formulas when working problems. In addition, I like to show how this can be accomplished using Microsoft Excel. It is safe to say that by far, my favorite subjects are accounting and finance. I love to help individuals with accounting because I have learned it is more research and placement than it is math. In addition, I love solving problems. I am a critical thinker, therefore, I challenge others to use their analytical side of the brain more.My motto is "each one can reach one". Recently returning from an incredible year living and working in Madrid, Spain, I'm looking to continue teaching Spanish and English to those who are motivated to learn. I began providing trumpet lessons at a young age, and then continued teaching privately in university in Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel. I have the skills and experience to teach Algebra, as well. I received a 20 on the test, putting me around 85% higher than all other test takers!I find that I'm super patient and very easy-going.
