AP French Language and Culture Tutor • +6 Subjects
I graduated from the Johns Hopkins University with a PhD in French language and literature and I have ten years of teaching experience. A French native, I completed my undergraduate studies at the Sorbonne in Paris, France. During my senior year I was also a French teaching assistant "abroad" for an American university in New York State. My role was to tutor students taking intermediate French during one-on-one sessions in my office. I helped them learn new vocabulary and acquire grammar tools; we read and discussed short texts from movie reviews to novella chapters; we compared paintings or photographs available on the internet but always in French. After that year, I taught French classes at Johns Hopkins from French 1 to French 4 as a graduate student. Upon graduation I was hired as a Visiting Assistant Professor by a small Southern California liberal arts college where I taught language and literature classes in French. I had office hours during which I answered questions and made sure students had assimilated the new material, from grammar rules to literary concepts. As a tutor and a teacher, I use French as much as possible even with beginners. I like to use auditory and visual inputs at the same time and I contextualize new words to ease the process of memorization. Most of all, I will adapt my methods to your needs and level of French. If you are more advanced I will help you converse and write about more complex material. I am a good listener and I will appreciate your feedback after each session if you wish to provide any.I have traveled to more than fifteen countries and lived in France, Austria, Switzerland and the USA. I have always enjoyed speaking foreign languages and I learned a lot from my own teachers and tutors in German and English. Their knowledge, confidence, open-mindedness and patience always inspired me; I strive to be to you the kind of tutors they were to me.

Hi! My name is Stephanie, and I am currently a Molecular Biology pre-med senior at Princeton University. My top subjects include both SAT and ACT Math, ACT Science, Biology, Calculus, and General Chemistry. During the academic year I work as a General Chemistry and Biology peer tutor at the on-campus tutoring center, and will be taking on the role as Study Group Leader for General Chemistry this fall. I love utilizing my former experiences to help and teach current students. I also volunteered as a peer tutor in my high school through the AVID program.Because mathematical understanding was integral to success in my science classes in both high school and university, I focused on learning for understanding as opposed to learning to pass exams, which I believe has been very useful when teaching other students strategies and techniques needed for academic success in their math classes. The tutoring method that I have the most experience in involves utilizing what the student already knows in order to foster confidence with the subject material as well as problem-solving skills that are helpful in exam situations.I have a strong science background stemming from both my high school and college curricula and I am sincerely passionate about these subjects as well. I've noticed that success in these subjects stems more from the understanding of the mechanics, whether it be of a biological system or just the scientific method, which is why I aim to make sure my tutees understand the core principles that eventually help them tackle more abstract and conceptual problems.Feel free to contact me about questions relating to times, scheduling, and other possible subjects that were not included in the principal bio! I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

I am pursuing a bachelor's at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in pure math and physics. I have been tutoring for a little over a year and I love seeing students grow in their math capabilities. I tutor many math and physics subjects but my favorite is calculus 1 because of how much students' perspectives of math change while taking the course. I have scored well on the SAT and many AP exams.

As far as I can remember, I've been the go-to guy when you wanted help with a subject, whether it was advanced mathematical concepts during my Bachelors Degree days, or software engineering principals in my Masters degree program. It was for this reason that I was specifically picked out by one of my professors to be his teaching assistant for two semesters of classes before I graduated. So confident was he in my skills that he was able to go around the requirement that TA-ships be only handed out to Phd level students. After graduating with a Master's Degree in Computer Sciences from the University of Texas at Arlington, I've been involved in a number of software development jobs including my current one in a Fortune 100 company. I can can back up my academic knowledge with extensive industry experience. However I haven't lost touch with teaching as I'm still called upon by friends for consultation about software engineering and design concepts.I'm computer enthusiast enjoys tinkering with hardware and software in my spare time and am pretty confident in my computer science teaching abilities. And since math goes hand in hand with computers, I'm well versed in math subjects as well.

I have a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Methodist University. My major is World Languages French and Spanish and my minor is Economics. My graduating GPA was 3.67 and I am a member of several honor societies. I participated in the SMU study abroad program, and previously obtained an Associate of Arts in Teaching Degree in Foreign Languages with a GPA of 4.0.I also have over a year experience tutoring high school students in AVID program; moreover I was an intern for the French American Chamber of Commerce. I did my minor in Economics, which is the reason why I had to take many calculus courses and advanced math classes.I was born in Colombia, therefore my first language is Spanish; also I had the opportunity to study abroad in Paris while I was doing my undergrad career.I believe each student has the potential to master new concepts with the right approach and I will love to help you achieve your goals!!!
