Hello,I hope you are well! My name is Sahar Khateeb. I am studying elementary education student and in my last year. I have tutored kindergarten and first graders. I currently teach as a paraprofessional for students with autism.

I started working with an after-school program in late 2012. I tutored K-8 in various subjects. I then moved on to tutor adults, and I currently tutor freshman and sophomores in the Chicago Public High School setting. I believe education is vital to advance in life and I want to make it fun for whoever I come across.

My goal in life is to make a difference in anybody's life. It could be one person or the world - it would mean everything to me. I want the chance to help people, and do something that could make them happy. It is this reason that I decided to study Political Science and Latin America & Latino Studies in the Pre-Law track at the University of Illinois-Chicago. I have the opportunity to help individuals with their needs and what they want to see be changed in the world around them. This is also why I enjoy tutoring because students want to be better themselves, and I know I can help them achieve that.

I am a student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I am working toward a major in neuroscience as well as a minor in mathematics, and I am on the pre-medical track. I have two years of experience working as a math instructor for students from ages 5 to 15, teaching concepts that ranged from simple shape recognition to complex algebra. In addition, I spent a semester volunteering as a virtual English and Phonics tutor for young elementary school kids in Chinatown, Chicago. Along with math and English, I immensely enjoy tutoring other subjects, such as biology, chemistry, and writing. I am passionate about tutoring students because I enjoy helping others develop confidence in their own academic abilities. In my opinion, one of the most important aspects of education is figuring out how to connect with each individual student and teach them in a way they can understand.

I believe that every person has the ability to learn and should be given every opportunity to do so. This belief was what led me to get my undergraduate degree in Mathematics Education from SUNY Fredonia. I then became an educator! I taught mathematics for several years, but then left teaching in a pursuit to gain more knowledge while attending Wake Forest University and obtaining a Masters Degree in Business Administration. I have since joined the business world as a Business Analyst, but have never lost my passion for teaching mathematics. In my free time, I enjoy working out, swimming, playing guitar, and hanging out with my family.

I have taught both English and computer science for years. In that time, it became obvious that individual conferences and small groups were the most effective way to learn for many of us. That led me to tutoring. Learning holds power, and I want to help others on their learning journeys. I strive myself to continue learning. I am currently learning Spanish and SQL.

I am a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I received my PhD in English with a specialization in Womens and Gender Studies. My areas of interest include Twentieth and Twenty-First Century American Literature, Cultural Studies, and Ethnic Literature. I taught college classes in English Composition and Literature for twelve years, and just recently left the university and moved to Chicago. In addition to teaching at the University of Nebraska, I worked as a writing tutor at a community college and loved the experience. I mostly worked with non-traditional students ranging in ages 17-70, many of whom use English as a second language. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Writing and Literature. In my experience, a lot of people fear writing because they think theyre not good at it. I enjoy trying to ease this tension because I see writing as an art and a way to express how we feel about ourselves and the world we live in. One word at a time and the piece will come together; I promise. I believe education comes in a variety of forms, and as a tutor I do my best to meet you where youre at. Working with a tutor doesn't have to be stuffy and dry, and it doesn't even have to feel like work. I think that most learning evolves out of having a conversation about the work were being asked to do. In my spare time, I enjoy biking, yoga, and playing with my two little dogs.

I am an incoming freshman at The University of Michigan. I am currently planning on receiving my Bachelor of Sciences from the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts with a focus on cognitive neuroscience and Spanish. I graduated with honors from New Trier Township High School in 2020. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Math, more specifically Algebra and Calculus, and Spanish. In high school, I was a math tutor at my school's resource center. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for tests and quizzes or understanding their homework, they always seem to have fun and gain more confidence in their ability to handle the subject. I am also a recipient of the Illinois Seal of Biliteracy for Spanish.

I'm an easy going person who has huge interest in education, physical fitness, and outdoor adventures. I've been fortunate enough to take these interest and make a career out of teaching Social Studies, and Physical Education in schools. It has been very rewarding and I look forward to continuing that career here.

I am dedicated to helping students understand not only the material of their subjects but strategies for answering questions of all types. I find it extremely helpful and important for the success of a student to focus on the intricacies of test taking or writing, such as proper use of the process of elimination with multiple choice questions, deep understanding of question syntax, and ways to formulate written answers, essays and papers that emphasize what the student knows and minimizes what the student doesn't know or isn't relevant to the subject at hand. I also facilitate a student's meaningful absorption of the material in the following ways: verbal expression of both the student's and my own thought processes, repetition of (novel) questions in areas that are difficult for the student and the monitoring of progress through correctly answered questions and the student's ability to explain why certain answers, thought processes or writing methods are either correct or incorrect. Finally, I possess great patience with students of all ages and hope to make the tutoring experience as smooth and as helpful as possible for them!
