My goal in life is to make a difference in anybody's life. It could be one person or the world - it would mean everything to me. I want the chance to help people, and do something that could make them happy. It is this reason that I decided to study Political Science and Latin America & Latino Studies in the Pre-Law track at the University of Illinois-Chicago. I have the opportunity to help individuals with their needs and what they want to see be changed in the world around them. This is also why I enjoy tutoring because students want to be better themselves, and I know I can help them achieve that.

I am a certified MRI technologist, a certified medical coder and I have bachelors of science in Biology. This education and work has given me extensive knowledge of anatomy and the human biological sciences. So, these are the areas where I can offer the most assistance. I bring to our tutoring sessions the experience of being a teacher assistant in Anatomy, Physiology and Histology and substitute teaching. I look forward to helping you succeed.

I graduated from the University of Michigan with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Chemical Engineering. Later, I received an MBA from the University of Chicago with concentrations in finance and marketing. I have always enjoyed math since I was a young child and taken pride in being the fastest and most accurate in finishing tests and in-class work. My classmates often called me for homework help and I also tutored my three children through high school calculus. This included teaching 7th grade math to my daughter over a summer which enabled her to go from 6th grade math in 6th grade to 8th grade math in 7th grade. She went on to take honors math in high school and even tutored calculus to others in college!I entered college as a combined math and chemistry major but when the math became too theoretical and not enough practical (I have always loved solving word problems), I switched to chemical engineering which was more fun and applicable to real situations. As part of my nomination to Tau Beta Pi (engineering honorary fraternity), I volunteered to tutor math and chemistry to undergraduate students which I also enjoyed. Many of the positions I held during my 39-year career in the oil industry involved supply chain and refinery optimization or major capital investment analysis. These required an extensive understanding of linear programming, particularly how to evaluate the results and identify the most important areas for profit maximization. I also led the development and delivery of an intensive linear programming course to teach LP practitioners how to set up and interpret results from large scale (>2500 constraints) refinery economic models used to optimize global crude oil purchases (> 1 million barrels/day) and refinery operations.Whenever I tutor, no matter the age or level of math or economics, I seek to help the student to understand the fundamental concepts and then apply those by solving problems in a way that is fun and makes sense. Because knowledge of math and economics creates a solid foundation for understanding so many other subjects, whether in school or general living, it is very rewarding to me when the "light bulb turns on" as a student "gets it" and gains the confidence to tackle their next challenge.I have been a Junior Achievement volunteer for 15+ years teaching concepts of business, economics and capitalism to students of all ages (elementary school to college). I enjoy playing cards and board games of all types as well as creating activity-based games which teach concepts of business and economics in a fun and interesting way.

AP French Tutor • +15 Subjects
As your tutor, I am here to help you reach your goals, no matter if you're shooting for a better ACT reading score or to conquer some tricky French conjugations. I will provide expertise in both English and French and use my tutoring experience and graduate studies in education to help you succeed. When working with a student, I aim to identify their learning style and strengths and use this information to maximize outcomes. My teaching strategies are flexible, allowing me to adapt to whatever my students bring to the table. I also believe in the power of setting goals. When students have a clear vision of what they hope to gain out of tutoring, sessions become more effective and students see results more quickly. Finally, I strive to take complex problems and make them simple for students, with clear explanations and helpful tips and tricks. In 2013, I graduated with honors from the University of Virginia with a double major in French and foreign affairs. While at UVA, I spent six months in Lyon, France, published a research paper in French, and took French graduate courses. As a foreign affairs major, I crafted research and response papers and earned excellent marks on my grammar and writing style. During my undergraduate years, I switched over from being my family's French tutor and English grammarian to a volunteer ESL tutor. For three years, I tutored refugees and French adults in English. In summer 2014, I was accepted to study language education at DePaul University. My goal is to ultimately become a secondary French and English language teacher.

I'm a current medical student located in Chicago studying for my board exams. I was home-schooled during middle and high school and from this experience I learnt the importance of self motivation as well the need to have someone that will give you the extra push when you need it. The flexibility of homeschooling gave me the opportunity to participate in the dual enrollment program at my local community college in Gastonia, NC. It was during this time, my first experience in a public school setting, that I realized my love for tutoring. During a college math course I was asked by a fellow student to explain the concepts we were going over in class. She later told me about failing 3 consecutive exams and was on the verge of quitting. After our third session together she began to see improvements in her homework grades and was able to score an 88% on her math exams. To me the greatest highlight of my time at that institution was when we "high-fived" after she got her test score.I transferred to Queens University after high school graduation; there I was offered a position as a physics and organic chemistry tutor my junior and senior year. I've always taken pride in helping students, and hold to the belief that anything worth doing is worth doing well; even when the job is tutoring. One Saturday I was stuck in the library for 8 hours with a tutee going over concepts in physics. Of course after our long session we both swore never to look at physics again, but the following Monday there I was at the Center for Academic Success with another student.Throughout my educational endeavor I've being privileged to help students both in my class and the classes behind me. At Queens University I received the tutor of the year award, as well as an award for a research project I presented both at the school and at a national science conference in West Virginia. With all that, the greatest reward is when the grades of a fellow student can be changed for good, especially when they are putting in the effort.

My pursuit of global medical knowledge has led me to Lebanon, Canada, and the USA. Each location enriched me professionally and culturally. I have completed a bachelor's degree in science, a master's degree and a medical doctorate. Throughout my journey, I encountered great teachers and mentors, and I learned from their engaging teaching style. In addition, I honed different study techniques and skills to cope with working under pressure. For me, tutoring is an opportunity to share my passion, knowledge, and experience with students, in order to help them realize their potential.I welcome the opportunity to work with you, and I look forward to helping you succeed in your future steps!

Whether someone needs coaching on one problem type or with a whole subject area, my favorite part of the tutoring/teaching experience is when a student can apply what we've learned completely independently. In my six years as a classroom teacher and my twelve years as a tutor, there has hardly been an age range or subject that I haven't had the pleasure of working with.My specific experience includes:1. Pre-Algebra and Algebra tutoring2. Elementary Reading, Writing, Social Studies and Science teaching and tutoring3. Middle School Science, Math and ELA teaching and tutoring4. High School and College English and essay writing (English with an emphasis in Linguistics and World Literature was one of my college majors, and it is also an area in which I have tutored extensively)5. Test preparation (from MAP to to the GRE!) tutoringMy years as a classroom teacher for the fourth, fifth and seventh grades and as a tutor for third grade through post-graduate test preparation have provided me with so many strategies to help students of all ages, which is important since every student has different strengths and interests. We will find the strategies that work best for you and then make sure that they are ingrained so that you can use them in the future.

I have recently graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a BS in Psychology and a BA in Latin! I was also part of their Undergraduate Honors Program and hope to become a clinical psychologist. I love tutoring because knowledge is priceless and must be shared. As a tutor, I believe it's my job to not only help students understand what they're working on, but to build enough of a knowledge base that they can confidently and independently solve similar problems in the future. I am currently an adult ESL tutor at the Loyola Literacy Center. I have a lot of experience working with children as well. I volunteered at the summer camps at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens from 2015-2017 and more recently I worked at a crisis shelter in Cincinnati. I tutor a broad range of subjects, but I especially enjoy English, Literature, and History because I think self-expression and interpersonal understanding are valuable skills that stretch far beyond academia. I also really enjoy math! When I'm not tutoring or studying for classes, I love playing soccer, reading, writing, translating, and exploring.
