As your tutor, I am here to help you reach your goals, no matter if you're shooting for a better ACT reading score or to conquer some tricky French conjugations. I will provide expertise in both English and French and use my tutoring experience and graduate studies in education to help you succeed. When working with a student, I aim to identify their learning style and strengths and use this information to maximize outcomes. My teaching strategies are flexible, allowing me to adapt to whatever my students bring to the table. I also believe in the power of setting goals. When students have a clear vision of what they hope to gain out of tutoring, sessions become more effective and students see results more quickly. Finally, I strive to take complex problems and make them simple for students, with clear explanations and helpful tips and tricks. In 2013, I graduated with honors from the University of Virginia with a double major in French and foreign affairs. While at UVA, I spent six months in Lyon, France, published a research paper in French, and took French graduate courses. As a foreign affairs major, I crafted research and response papers and earned excellent marks on my grammar and writing style. During my undergraduate years, I switched over from being my family's French tutor and English grammarian to a volunteer ESL tutor. For three years, I tutored refugees and French adults in English. In summer 2014, I was accepted to study language education at DePaul University. My goal is to ultimately become a secondary French and English language teacher.

I graduated in May 2020 from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. I obtained my bachelors degree in Chemistry with a minor in Spanish in just 3 years due to my advanced track. Given that chemistry was my major, I frequently tutored my other pre-med classmates in their chemistry coursework. My final year I acted as a TA for the biology class I had taken my freshman year. Although I love alone time for my own hobbies, I value getting to know people on a personal level. For this reason my teaching approach is based highly on the individual I am working with. I like to get know my students style of learning and try to make it more meaningful through a personal connection. I believe less in memorization and more in creating foundations of knowledge that one can continue to build upon and rely on in moments of doubt. As your tutor, I would always be open to constructive criticism with the goal of creating the most comfortable and productive learning environment for you. This way, the learning never stops in either of us.

Hey there! I'm a certified math teacher, professional sous chef, and budding comedian willing to tutor in my spare time! A graduate from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2013, I have a multitude of both professional and private teaching/tutoring experience and skills. The teaching certification program I completed is heavily focused on STEM education and creating well-rounded students for today's technology centered world. Our lesson plans were both hands-on and thoroughly engaging while ensuring efficacy in education. I firmly believe that every student has the potential for "math literacy"; with a little help, anyone can be a math-confident person. I am most comfortable teaching math subjects (from preschool to BC Calculus), but I do have some background in reading/writing tutoring. I currently work as a sous chef four nights a week, but otherwise my schedule is open. I prefer online but am willing to travel up to 20-25 miles if needed. Contact me with any questions; I am here to help.

For the last twelve years, I have taught English composition and literature for the University of Wisconsin. While I love the classroom, I have come to see that one-on-one instruction is the most effective and rewarding for both teachers and students. Now that I am in Chicago, I am eager to provide that kind of individualized instruction to help students prepare for and succeed in all of their scholastic endeavors. One of the reasons I majored in English was that every subject is of interest to me, and language is the primary tool with which we share knowledge and ideas about all of them. While my primary specialty is tutoring in writing and reading, I am also available for tutoring in mathematics, history, the social sciences, and ACT/SAT preparation.I have a Master of Arts in English from Ohio University. I received my bachelor's from Ohio State and also attended Kenyon College. My master's thesis compared the works of Geoffrey Chaucer to those of James Joyce, while my undergraduate focus was in American Literature of the twentieth century. As you might guess I am an avid reader. I am on a trivia team that has won several contests. I also play guitar and chess, the latter of which I teach children to play in an after-school program.More than anything, I love to share information and ideas, find new ways to approach problems, and seek to understand the different ways people think about the world. My students describe me as patient, kind, and knowledgeable. I believe that dialogue is fundamental to learning, so I will be asking a lot of questions as well as answering those that you have.

Whether someone needs coaching on one problem type or with a whole subject area, my favorite part of the tutoring/teaching experience is when a student can apply what we've learned completely independently. In my six years as a classroom teacher and my twelve years as a tutor, there has hardly been an age range or subject that I haven't had the pleasure of working with.My specific experience includes:1. Pre-Algebra and Algebra tutoring2. Elementary Reading, Writing, Social Studies and Science teaching and tutoring3. Middle School Science, Math and ELA teaching and tutoring4. High School and College English and essay writing (English with an emphasis in Linguistics and World Literature was one of my college majors, and it is also an area in which I have tutored extensively)5. Test preparation (from MAP to to the GRE!) tutoringMy years as a classroom teacher for the fourth, fifth and seventh grades and as a tutor for third grade through post-graduate test preparation have provided me with so many strategies to help students of all ages, which is important since every student has different strengths and interests. We will find the strategies that work best for you and then make sure that they are ingrained so that you can use them in the future.
