I find teaching to be like an offshore fishing trip for tuna. There is a lot of preparation, a long trip is to be expected, but there is nothing like the excitement when you are in the moment and the pay-off at the end of the day is priceless. As a teacher, I bring interest, wonderment, and a sense ...

Hi! I'm Timmy. I look forward to working with you.I have a wide range of experiences that I think are valuable for an array of different students in need of some help. Graduating from Manhattan College in May of 2012, I received my bachelor of science in chemical engineering. In addition to that, I was a Resident Assistant for the last 2 years of my college career, which was an additional responsibility, but an invaluable experience nonetheless. Being a Resident Assistant meant counseling and creating a positive learning environment for 140+ students in 2 years. My time management and people management skills were sharpened from this time spent with strict deadlines and colorful personalities. My tutoring experience is vast because I have so much more to offer than simply a high GPA and some academic knowledge. In my experience, some of the smartest people in the world are the worst teachers, because they can't relate to the student. Whether its math, physics, chemistry, psychology, astronomy, reading or creative writing, I've experienced the ups and downs in these fields of thought and at this point I've assimilated a great deal of information. I know the feeling of hunger when I don't get some concept, and I also know that satisfying feeling of understanding the concept. I've counseled roommates over their relationship problems, I've looked into the future with students as they outline their dreams, and I've been tutored and have tutored my fellow chemical engineering classmates countless times at 4am working long into the night to understand complex concepts. My teaching style is that of the captain of a ship in the ocean. At the beginning of the tutoring session, I want to know where you are, and what you already know. Once we've established what you comprehend and what you don't comprehend, then we can go along and identify within the time we have for a particular session, where you want to go. Once the map is marked and our sail is set, and our goal is set, then we can go ahead and chart our path, and do what we need to do to achieve that goal. If you have a homework you need help on, perfect. If you have an exam to study for, perfect, show me your notes and homework and we'll go over them and I'll make new questions for you. If you have nothing, and need to start from scratch, that's fine too. I always bring my iPad and can create a lesson for you on the spot.My style is vibrant and energetic, yet calm and assuring. I will challenge you. I will not give away the answers for you; I will make you explain the concepts to me after I help you understand them more concretely. I have a magnificent imagination where I'll relate the funniest, most absurd ideas together so that a concept makes sense. Lastly, I am extremely attentive and observant to people that are around me. I will identify the language you say to me and will then know the type of learner you are, and the way you process information best. This allows me to cater the tutoring experience to you, and make you feel the most comfortable in learning what you need to learn.I am a lifelong learner. I live everyday as if it was my last, and learn everyday as if I'll live forever.

I graduated from Harvard University with a magna cum laude in History in 2012. After graduation, I went to Taiwan to teach English. I had a lot of fun there, and picked up a conversational level of Mandarin Chinese, but after two years (and four battles with food poisoning) I decided it was time to come back to America. I took the LSAT in September of 2014, and have been tutoring it ever since.I have a wide array of interests, and can tutor a number of different humanities subjects. However, my favorite subject to tutor is LSAT preparation. I feel like I built up a huge amount of personal knowledge and strategy in my own study process that I want to pass on to others. I love History, too, though. I am currently in the law school admissions process, so if you have any questions, I can help you with that as well.

Imagination takes me places others fail to venture. My passion for reading opens doors to options traditionally overlooked. Equipped with a trusting intuition and grounded by over a decadeof experience working with 600+ young adults with unique learning styles, emotions, and interests my individualized and full service approach gets the results stakeholders want acceptance into the best possible colleges, universities, and programs. As a college advisor / academic coach, I work with high school and college aged individuals who want to stay academically competitive. My empathetic yet candid approach helps me form effective relationships with a full range of learners. Measurable achievement is realized by numerous acceptances to selective colleges and universities. Additionally, I effectively equip individuals who are challenged by ADHD, ADD, anxiety, and Autism Spectrum Disorders, addressing barriers resulting in higher educational accomplishments. My professional path is somewhat unconventional. Proficient in Spanish, I began my career as a marketing specialist and events planner. Along the way I ventured into acting and eventually landed in college advising - my true calling - after working for the Princeton Review for several years. The college admissions process utilizes the best of my combined experiences whether this means studying individual behavior and interests to build a trusting connection that leads to more accurate placement, coaching students to write high impact personal statements, or managing the process to ensure timely submissions of financial aid applications and scholarship requests.Since 2005, I have assisted freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors within the Westchester County region from low income to the very wealthy in a variety of settings focused on the SAT, ACT, Private Tutoring, and Admission Counseling achieve a more successful outcome than they would have going it alone.

Conversational German Tutor • +6 Subjects
I have been giving private German lessons for more than 6 years and truly enjoy working with teenagers and children. I use fun activities to immerse students in the language so that they forget they are learning. My lessons can be as informal or formal depending on the client's preference.TestimonialBirgit is not only a native speaker but has the best proper standard high German pronunciation and intonation. Furthermore, her most creative and interactive teaching methods make this difficult language fun to learn. Being a thorough professional and an extremely patient tutor, she has a knack for tailoring the learning material to the level of my child and making the lessons very effective. I was very lucky to have found such an excellent German tutor.Reiner S."Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and help them become what they're capable of being." - Goethe

I am a current student at Barnard College, Columbia University. I am on the pre-med track with a major in biology. I am also interested in economics and American history. I began tutoring as a middle school student and haven't stopped, continuing into my high school years, year abroad and college. Through the years I have gained experience in tutoring chemistry, pre-calculus, algebra and reading. I find that patience is the most important attribute of a tutor because I believe that in due time and with the right assistance everyone can learn.

I am currently a creative writing major at The City College of New York (CCNY) and an aspiring poet, novelist, and playwright.I graduated from the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) with an Associate of Arts in Creative Writing with High Honors, and while earning my degree, I was the Vice President of CSN's Creative Writing Club and part of their editorial board for their literary and visual arts journal: Neon Dreams. I am also the winner of Steiner's Emerging Voices Scholarship for poetry and Neon Dreams' Monthly Writing Contest for poetry at CSN and the Goodman Fund Poetry Award at CCNY.Before earning my degree at CSN, I tutored students in English and math for the "No Child Left Behind" act which, in fact, had inspired me to go back to school and receive a formal education. Reading and writing are my passions, and I believe that anyone can find the joys of learning with the right attitude and proper motivation which is why I decided to get back into tutoring students.Apart from academia, I enjoy reading and writing (of course), listening to music, watching Broadway musicals and plays, exploring the city and, occasionally, revisiting old video games from my childhood.
