Tutoring is my passion. I like to help young people understand subjects that they have trouble with and help them realize that it's possible to succeed in them. I learned economics in business school at Duquesne University and subsequently worked in wholesale banking and investment banking. My approach to teaching economics is that you cannot live in the US and not have a basic understanding of economics. The terminology and the drawing of graphs may elude you, but the concepts are embedded in you. I use aspects of my students lives and their interests to create meaning. Economics can be fun and economics can be exciting if you have the right instructor

I earned my bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in computer science. I have worked at the NIH and at Caltech as a bioinformatics researcher, and I am starting graduate school this fall. My experiences as a student and scientist help me explain concepts and work through problems in a clear and engaging manner. I love teaching, and strive to make each personalized lesson enjoyable and productive. In addition to math and science, I can teach the skills and strategies students need to reach their goals on the ACT, GRE, or AP tests. I also enjoy working with elementary age students to increase reading and math proficiencies.

Born and raised in the beautiful city of Pasadena, Brandon is a first generation college graduate with a passion for math and science specifically astronomy. From a young age he has been inspired by mentors, teachers, Caltech, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the nearby Griffith Observatory to continuously study the stars. Eventually he wishes to pursue a PhD in Astrophysics, hoping to advance the knowledge for all humanity. During his undergraduate career he spent most of his afternoons tutoring and assisting teachers at an Elementary school in Malibu focusing primarily on math and science.Another passion of his is volunteering for the YMCA. He has been a summer camp counselor/director for the past 7 years, and just recently became an advisor with the youth government program aimed to develop public speaking/debate skills of high school students. Through his volunteer work he has gained a great appreciation for leading the lives of youth in any capacity he can. In his free time he is a devoted hometown fan of the UCLA Bruins, Dodgers, and Lakers.

I am an honors graduate of a medical transcription and editing program from the online school Career Step. This included courses in grammar and punctuation. With this program, I also gained proofreading and editing skills as I edited work that I had transcribed to be sure it was grammatically correct. I love to travel and have new experiences. Every day I work on learning new things and developing new talents. There are so many interesting things about this world.

I have been a California licensed attorney since December of 2011, and currently practice full-time as a Law Clerk for four Los Angeles Superior Court Judges.Since I finished my undergraduate degree, I have tutored many high school and college students in essay writing and test prep. My affinity for math dates back to my childhood - I've always been intrigued by it. Because of this interest, I participated in various math competitions and excelled in classes and on standardized tests. One of my favorite historical books is The Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglas. In his autobiography, Douglas, a former slave, describes how his masters kept him enslaved by making it illegal for slaves to learn to read and write. However, one of Douglas' kinder mistresses educated him, and this power enabled him to run away and eventually write his radical memoir that led to the abolition of slavery in America.Learning begins with questioning, so I ask my students lots of questions to invoke discussion that leads them to the right answers. I learn what my students are interested in, and I shape my lesson plans around their interests. I communicate with my students to make sure they are understanding and they feel like we are moving toward their goals. All people are smart and able, so even when students seem disinterested, I hold them to a high expectation. I care about my students as human beings in the pursuit of their dreams which means I will do my best always to teach them and respect their time. I am very patient, encouraging, and kind to my students because that is the environment I need when I am learning.In my spare time I enjoy hanging out with my friends, reading novels, creative writing, taking walks around the Rosebowl, singing, watching sunsets from the San Gabriel mountains, and eating breakfast in the morning sun with a strong cup of coffee.
