I am a graduate of a top engineering university and am an engineer for an energy firm. I have years of experience tutoring and teaching math and various sciences from elementary through college. I primarily tutor high school math and sciences but also have extensive experience in all forms of engineering and higher mathematics including Calculus and Linear Algebra. I believe in incorporating real world examples to help students understand the application of math and science in the real world.

As a current college student, I believe I understand how best to communicate with and teach fellow students of all ages. Being able to relate to students is an important aspect of an effective learning environment. I believe that nothing is more important to this process than patience. I have been a writing tutor at Duke's prestigious Thompson Writing Program where I assisted a wide variety of writing in the sciences and the humanities. I also created and led a summer workshop for public high school students to assist them in writing their college essay applications.

I completed my undergraduate degree at Mount Holyoke College, my Masters degree with honors at the London School of Economics, and my Juris Doctor at New York Law School. I'm a licensed attorney in New York State and available to tutor on the weekends. I have helped my students raise their SAT verbal scores over 200 points. I believe that every student can succeed. I create an individualized program for my students to ensure success. My name is Matthew and I graduated from Cornell Tech with a Master's of Engineering in Computer Science this past May. I was also on the pre-med track for a few years before I changed my goals. I tutor many STEM topics to a wide range of students. Studying and learning are challenging, but teaching is as well. Since they are in fact the same thing viewed from different angles, it is true that a good student is also a good teacher. I hope I can help you in this laborious process of education.

I am a German native speaker, living in New York since 1999. Language learning has always been one of my favorite things to do. I would like to show my students that it can be fun, rewarding and interesting to immerse themselves in another culture through learning a foreign language.Language influences thinking, the way we interact with others and to some degree how we see the world. When learning another language, it often provides glimpses into other perspectives. Learning a second (or third, or...) language is not only a way to learn about a different culture and alternative ways for social interactions but can really broaden the horizon.Apart from language learning and teaching, I enjoy literature, going to the theater, history and living in the greatest city on earth! In order to spice up the leaning process, I will provide sample texts and practice questions that will be tailored as much as possible to students' interests and preferences.

I have a BA in English literature from St. Mary's College of Maryland, and I spent a semester studying Medieval literature at Oxford University. I have taught English as a Second Language in Thailand and Malaysia in addition to the United States.My favorite subjects to teach are reading and writing. I love writing so much I have even written a novel! I love helping my students gain a deep understanding of the works they read and communicate their ideas effectively and eloquently in writing. My background in ESL has also given me a meticulous understanding of English grammar.As you might guess, my favorite hobby besides reading and writing is traveling. I have lived in four different countries and traveled to eighteen! To me, reading and traveling are two sides of the same coin: they both allow us to step away from ourselves and appreciate the complexity of the world we live in and the people who inhabit it.As a tutor, I dedicate myself to identifying each of my students' strengths and weaknesses and helping them become the best writer they can be!
