As a teacher with 18 years of experience, I am excited about the opportunity to apply my skills and experience in tutoring students at Varsity Tutors. In addition to my two Master's degree, I also have 18 years of experience teaching history to graduate and undergraduate students. What I learned through that experience was that to get students to remember and understand computer science concepts, I had to explain them practically and conceptually. I implemented unorthodox teaching strategies for some of the subjects such as data structures and programming skills. I am passionate about teaching and helping students come to love the act of learning, and I would cherish the opportunity to transform the way your students view the concepts of Computer science. I have written two books on data structures and programming. During the tenure , I have taught many computer science subjects such as Programming in C, C++, Html and Web Programming, Data Structure and Programming etc.On personal level, I am very much dedicated, devoted to work and committed. I have worked in many different settings with children who have a variety of disabilities. I feel that all children and adults can contribute, in a positive way, to our society. There is not a greater reward than seeing the smile or twinkle in a students eyes when they have learned something.I appreciate that what might be appropriate goals for one student may not be appropriate for another. I want to help students to be as independent as they can be and function on their own as much as possible.While I have primarily worked with children before they go to Kindergarten, I have 3 children of my own who are in high school and middle school. I have learned so much from them and the teachers who teach them.

After graduation I moved to the Northwest and worked for the Portland Trail Blazers living an hour from Mt. Hood and the Pacific coast was a wonderful experience.Continuing my passion for education, I returned to Lewis and Clark College pursuing my degree in Elementary Education.After graduation I had the privilege of teaching 5th grade for three years in the Kansas City Kansas Public School District. I thoroughly enjoyed learning with my students on a daily basis. I encouraged my students to always think critically and support their conclusions. I have tutored students in a variety of subjects such as: elementary and intermediate math, social studies, and reading. However, U.S. History is my passion!!! I love discussing Westward expansion, Constitutional Law, and 19th Century U.S. History to name a few. When discussing historical topics, investigating what happened and why it happened fosters understanding. Similar to working in the classroom, I encourage students to think critically about a subject and analyze it it from a variety of perspectives.In my spare time I enjoy traveling, learning about music, reading, writing poetry and watching college basketball.

I am a graduate of the University of Central Missouri, where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration Accounting emphasis. After working in the accounting field, I went on to pursue a career in education. I graduated with a Master of Arts in Elementary Teacher Education and a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix, and a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University. Upon receiving my teaching credentials, I became an elementary teacher and literacy coach and then was promoted to become an elementary principal. I also obtained certification as a K-12 special education teacher and worked as a special education director and teacher.Throughout my career, I have tutored all subject areas in grades K-6 as well as reading, writing, and math in grades 7-8. As an avid reader and writer, I am most passionate about tutoring reading and writing. I love watching students grow as readers building a lifelong passion for reading, and the natural progression in their writing. I also enjoy teaching math and helping students build number sense and confidence in their mathematical abilities.As a passionate educator, I strive to share that passion for learning with students and fellow adult learners. Helping students understand how the learning applies to real life and discovering connections between topics is inspiring and motivates the heart and mind to learn even more. I have also tutored at various locations through colleges and on my own. I majored in biology and chemistry then got teaching certificate. I have taught at all girls schools most of my career but also taught at a Navajo boarding school which was coed. I have worked with mostly middle and high school students from a wide variety of backgrounds. I have also taught a forensic science class in a brick and mortar school and through an all online school.I feel the best way to ensure a student's success is to encourage good communication between the student and the tutor and if applicable the parent. I believe in finding out what the students already know and working from there using as many different ways of teaching and explaining as possible. I want to work with the student's strengths and learning style to help the student progress as far as they are able.I have raised four children of my own so understand both sides of the student dynamics, as a parent and as a teacher/tutor. I enjoy working with students and helping them to reach their potential.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading lots of books and spending time with my 2 children and my husband.
