Administrative Law Tutor • +34 Subjects
I am a lawyer who graduated with a J.D. degree from The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. Prior to law school, I attended Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature. I have always had excellent reading, comprehension, and writing skills, which helped me to succeed in school and in my professional legal career. After graduating from law school, I was a law clerk for two Maryland judges, for whom I frequently had to draft legal opinions. I subsequently became a legal research and legal training specialist for law students and also for attorneys in large law firms. My previous volunteer experience includes being a reading tutor for a non-profit organization in DC, where I worked one-on-one with elementary and middle school students who were reading below grade level. I am a stickler for proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling, so I enjoy teaching these very important skills to my students so that they can succeed academically. It gives me immense satisfaction to see a student progress and become more confident in an area in which he or she started out struggling. I am a huge proponent of education, therefore, my goal is to help students see the value, and appreciate the end result, of hard work and determination. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with my husband, our 11-year-old son (6th grader), and our family dog!

Hi!My name is Abby and I am excited to work with you!A little about me, I recently graduated with my Masters of Public Health from Boston University. Before that, I completed my Bachelors from Cornell University.I have many years of experience as a tutor and I have worked with students and children of all ages. I have been a swimming instructor, a flute teacher, and an English tutor. In college, I tutored students in Organic Chemistry.I try to make learning fun and accessible for everyone I work with. For younger children, I create games and activities to help keep them engaged. Activities can include skits, using props to help explain concepts, acting out scenes in stories to make reading fun, or using art to help illustrate ideas. I think that hands on learning works best for many young children. For older students, I like to teach using practice problems, and by having the student teach me what they have learned. I have found that if you are able to teach what you learned back to me, it means you truly understand it. I am also happy to accommodate your learning style if you know what works for you! I will work with you individually to make sure that you get the most out of your sessions.I would love the opportunity to help you excel!~Abby

I am a graduate of Sewanee: The University of the South, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Russian and Art History with a focus in modern and contemporary art. I spent a semester studying at the European University at St. Petersburg in the Master's program of Russian Culture and the Arts, combining my love of both art and Russian culture. As a tutor at my University's writing center, I edited papers for a variety of subjects and worked with art majors to develop honors theses. I love brainstorming creative approaches to papers with students, and I may be one of the few recent graduates who still thinks grammar is exciting. My enthusiasm is contagious! I am a North Carolina native and an avid college basketball fan. I enjoy backpacking and hiking--I recently completed the Camino de Santiago, hiking five weeks from France to Spain.

I received my teaching degree from UNC Charlotte and I am currently in my 11th year of teaching. For five of those years, I taught in a middle school setting for students with special needs. I am licensed for K-12 special education. About 6 years ago I transitioned to the private teaching sector and assist students of varying ages and ability levels. I chose to become an educator because I enjoy seeing students succeed and watching them grow to be independent learners.
