Currently, I teach math full-time for the Denver Public School system. Prior to moving to Denver I acquired several years of experience as a mentor, substitute teacher, teaching assistant and researcher at the collegiate level. While in North Carolina I attended graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I conducted my quantitative thesis research at UNCW--which focuses on how educational inequalities perpetuate variations in the ways that individual’s access, use and benefit from Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) & the Internet. Moreover, I completed my undergraduate studies at Binghamton University and, next fall, I plan on beginning a Doctoral program for Information Communication Studies or Sociology.For fun, I have many hobbies--most of which involve being active outdoors and spending time with my friends and family. This past summer I spent a lot of time paddle-boarding at Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina—until I moved to Colorado. In August, I finished my move to Colorado and I have spent most of my leisure-time enjoying the outdoors: golfing, running and hiking.

I am a student at the Georgia Institute of Technology studying Chemical Engineering. For the past several years, I have worked with students extensively. Through hosting events for younger kids to learn about STEM and for older teens to practice empathetic design, I know the importance of teaching students in ways that engage them rather than frustrate them, which I apply to my teaching. I have tutored high school students in a drop-in resource center in various subjects including math of all levels, chemistry, and English, making me adequately equipped in a variety of topics. I have also tutored several students long-term. Establishing relationships with students and exploring their unique learning styles is my favorite part of tutoring. I prioritize helping students discover HOW to learn in a manner that is the most effective for them, so they can begin to use those skills on their own throughout their education. Learning is a lifelong skill that requires practice for improvement; I strive to help my students gain confidence in their ability to learn.

I have a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the Universities of Michigan and Washington, respectively. My research and professional work have included automotive engineering, healthcare IT, and renewable energy. I have tutored elementary and high school mathematics and am available to tutor all math subjects up to and including AP Calculus AB and Physics. While the mechanics of math problems is important, I think solving real-world applications of mathematics is the true test of how well a concept is understood, and is much more enjoyable to learn. As I was finishing my degree, I was working full-time in the financial industries. Upon completion of my degree I decided to pursue my passion of teaching and have not looked back. I received my teaching license through an alternative license program through Metro State. As a teacher of four years, I have had the opportunity to work with students from Kindergarten up to 6th grade (where I currently teach Math). A number of years back I also lived and taught in Mexico for two years.I am currently only tutoring math (for elementary and middle school aged students). I'm focused on math because of the importance it has in our daily lives. Aside from the ability to read, I don't think there is a skill that is in greater demand. That being said, I recognize that there are many aspects of Math that can be confusing. I like to employ chants and hand movements to help remember the vocabulary and methods necessary to be successful in Math.Outside of the classroom, I love spending time with my family (wife, 4 kids, and a dog!). When I'm taking some time to myself, I can either be found reading a good book (I love most genres but hold a special place for Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Dystopian books. or watching some sports on TV (Go Broncos!). I do enjoy to travel when funds and time allow. But mostly my time is spent ensuring that I'm helping my students be as successful as they can. I love tutoring because it helps me reach out and impact more student lives than I normally am able to.

In my tutoring experience, I have primarily worked with high school students in science and math courses, and have really enjoyed the opportunity to encourage enthusiasm for their classes during these sessions. I work to help my students understand the material at a conceptual level so that they can build upon what they have learned in the future, and also focus on organization in problem-solving methods. Outside of tutoring, I study physical therapy at UCD and spend my free time running and hiking with friends.
