About Me

I earned a BA in English (Phi Beta Kappa; Departmental Honors) from The College of Wooster and a Master of Letters (Outstanding Service Award; 4.0 GPA) in Shakespeare and Performance from Mary Baldwin College. As a professional teacher, I tutored for two years in suburban Washington, DC. In that role, I taught test preparation, composition, and reading comprehension for accelerated students. While in this position, I helped several students achieve perfect SAT verbal and writing sections, and specialized in college essay composition. While completing my graduate degree, I ran weekly writing labs for ESL learners and first-generation college students in rural Virginia. Having worked with many types of learners, I believe in finding students' strengths, tailoring appropriate strategies, and giving them ownership over their own work. While I specialize in teaching academic writing, test preparation, and Shakespeare, I believe that struggling students can overcome any obstacle by learning repeatable methods to confidently approach problems. Outside of teaching, I work as a Shakespearean actor, freelance writer, and folk musician. In my spare time, I enjoy fitness, distance running, watching professional sports, and reading.
