About Me
I am an English Educator. In May 2019, I received my Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University in English. More recently, I have received my teaching certification in grades 6-12. My philosophy of teaching English Language Arts is centered around culturally responsive teaching. I am passionate about helping students because I believe that youth should be empowered to explore, experiment, and discover in ways that meet their needs. My teaching experience ranges across a diverse group of learners. Most of my experience is in Middle and High School as I engaged in service learning and practicums through my university in those placements. However, I have also worked with Elementary School learners in after-school and extracurricular programs. My work extends to adults in the community as well as I have worked in an educative role in an intentional housing organization. I also have traveled to various countries in Europe, South America, and Africa studying education. For five years, I participated in a Global Educator's Cohort Program that prepared me to work with diverse learners and create multicultural academic environments. Most recently, I spent the past school year student-teaching 10th grade Pre-AP English and 12th grade Creative Writing. Currently I teach 11th Grade British & World Literature and 10-12th Grade Creative Writing. I am currently available to tutor in English Language Arts related content at all age levels including but not limited to reading, reading comprehension, writing, essay writing, grammar and syntax, American and/or comparative literature, as well as ACT/SAT reading and writing prep. When it comes to one-on-one tutoring, my teaching philosophy is directed by an individualized approach. Using the resources from the course and/or exam that the student is preparing for, I work with the student to create meaningful scaffolds, practice work, and generative assessment. Building rapport with students is important to me so that I can best understand their learning preferences, styles, and needs.
