Understanding Fractions

What are Fractions?

Fractions show parts of a whole. The top number (numerator) tells how many parts you have. The bottom number (denominator) tells how many equal parts the whole is divided into.

Comparing and Ordering Fractions

To compare fractions, make the denominators the same or use a number line to see which is bigger.

Equivalent Fractions

Sometimes different fractions mean the same thing! \( \frac{2}{4} \) is the same as \( \frac{1}{2} \).
