Using Context Clues
Figuring Out Unknown Words
When you find a word you don’t know, look at the words and sentences around it for hints about its meaning. These are called context clues. They help you guess the meaning without using a dictionary.
Types of Context Clues:
- Definition: The word is explained nearby.
Synonym/Antonym: Similar or opposite words give hints.
- Examples: Examples help clarify the meaning.
Getting good at using context clues makes reading smoother and more fun!
