Time Management on the ACT

Beat the Clock

Time is limited on the ACT, so having a plan is essential! The math section gives you 60 minutes for 60 questions. That’s just one minute per question.

Tips for Success

  • Don’t get stuck on one question—move on and come back if you have time.
  • Use your watch to pace yourself. Try to finish the first 30 questions in 30 minutes.
  • Bubble in answers as you go; don’t leave blanks!

Practice

Get used to working quickly by timing yourself on practice tests.

Examples

  • Skip a tough question and answer the easy ones first.

  • Set a timer for 10 minutes and try to solve 10 practice problems.
