Today was our first session. The majority of time was spent doing diagnostic work, where we discovered that in math, the student is functioning at a 7th-grade standards level, with some more significant needs in operations with fractions and with algebraic expressions. I will also need to probe more into geometry, since the diagnostic only had one question on this, and he did not get this correct. In reading, we did a Lexile analysis and determined that his ability to identify details is strong up until about a level of 1000. Next time, we will work on fractions, with an emphasis on understanding fractional multiplication and division. We will also work on main idea and details as well as the tone of Lexile level 1000 materials. We will wrap up by discussing strategy for the assessment test.

Today, the student and I went over lesson 24. We started with our normal warm-up conversation, and we are regularly switching back and forth between different tenses. He is doing a great job responding with the correct conjugation. We focused the rest of the lesson on lots of conjugation review, story-telling, and translation exercises. Additionally, we introduced new vocabulary during our conversation. He did very well during our lesson today; we use very little English except for clarification purposes, and he continues to improve with his conjugation accuracy.

Today, we reviewed the properties of quadrilaterals. Specifically, we used the properties of parallelograms and rhombi to solve for missing angles. We talked about the Pythagorean theorem and used it to solve for missing side lengths. Finally, we used the exterior and interior angles of a regular polygon, along with some simultaneous equations, to find the number of sides on the regular polygon.

We covered graphing inequalities and introduced factoring quadratic equations. The student was much more enthusiastic and confident during the session compared to the first session.

Tutoring review by Ari in Oregon
We worked on the student's math study guide and tried to understand the concepts that were going to be on his test. He is a smart kid but needs to focus on slowing down and taking his time in writing clearly because sometimes the right answer evades him even though he did all the work.

Today was my first session with the student, and we did test corrections on his last Algebra 2 test. This covered topics like domain and range given points, definitions of a function, finding x- and y-intercepts, graphing linear equations, writing equations given various information, parallel and perpendicular lines, and graphing inequalities.
