We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

The student is doing well. We did test corrections today, and he had the majority of a question right. His teacher just wanted him to go a little more in depth with things. He understood the material better and with greater depth after we went over it.

The student and I went through his curriculum tonight and made a laundry list of everything he's uncertain about. The list is pretty long, so we briefly went over every concept so I could see where he is in terms of understanding and being able to apply concepts. So far, it seems as though his greatest struggle is simply knowing which term is which. I'm going to try to find a few worksheets with better examples of each concept for our next session.

The student  began with her homework packet. She did addition with double digits. She was learning to carry ten ones to the tens units. She did her spelling activity. Then we did correction to a math paper. The last 15 minutes she read, which she really enjoys.

The student and I began his review for the final exam. We went over his first two tests and re-worked the test problems, paying special attention to the problems he answered incorrectly. We briefly reviewed the different kinds of sampling and when you would use each method, as well as the different kind of treatments and level of treatment you would give to experimental units. We also spent some time going over binomial probability formulas and worked on factorials as well.

SAT II subject test prep. We focused on the Literature test today, which follows a similar format to the SAT but allows much more room for interpretation in questions, and features significantly harder passages. We went slowly through the Literature sample test, discussing each question. As the lesson went on, the student did better adapting to the different format. We should pay particular attention to poetry and song/verse passages, since these are different than anything we have worked on before. We also began looking at Math I, and the student completed the first 20 questions with minimal help. The student will probably take the Literature and Math I tests in time for early decision, and wait until November for Math II so she can progress farther in school math. The test contains some things that she is seeing now for the first time in school. HW: finish math and literature tests. Next lesson scheduled for Tuesday at 7 pm.

Tutoring review by Ava in Peabody, MA
We went over basic algebra concepts as well as pre-algebra concepts.  We focused mostly on adding like terms, solving equations with one or two variables, changing equations into slope-intercept form, graphing equations in slope-intercept form, multiplying/diving fractions, and multiplying/dividing by 1 and -1.  I also assigned her homework which will cover these topics.
