We continued our review work today, spending time on slopes of parametric equations mainly. She did very well, especially with the "which of the following are true" questions about integrals and derivatives alike. She seems to be getting a much better hold on the real world meanings of the math that we do. By that I mean that she used to memorize formulas and plug and chug, but now she is moving towards understanding the math that is actually happening and being able to manipulate rather than just memorize. Student has a quiz next week and I think she will do very well.

Tutoring review by Lindsay in Mason, OH
The student worked on homework for his math class. When he had a question, I would assist. We also discussed some techniques for organizing homework and for creating better study habits. I asked the student to talk about his personal goals with regard to his performance in the classroom. I asked him about what motivates him and how he can reward himself effectively for getting his work done and avoiding procrastination. Together, we came up with a plan to help him get his homework done on time and to help him feel a sense of accomplishment when he achieves his goals.

Tutoring review by Lynne in Mason, OH
Today the student and I worked on the constraints and inequalities for linear programming. Using the vertices of the feasible area, we were able to find maximum or minimum values for the designated equation. Her book uses decimals and not exact values, so determining the vertices from a graph can be difficult at times and estimations were used. She also asked if I could stay a little longer and work on some Chemistry. We worked through some density, mass, and volume problems.

Tutoring review by Denise in Mason, OH
Today the student worked on his multiplication homework. He understood how to do his work completely. We played math games that included multiplication, fractions, geometry and elapsed time. I was able to analyze his level slightly by seeing him work in those areas. He is very bright and learns quickly. I will access his school's platform to follow along with his school lessons. I also plan to teach him slightly more advanced concepts as we move forward. I noticed that he has room to work on fractions and perfect geometry and time concepts.
