Tutoring review by Mathias in Nevada
We did a 35 minute orientation session. The student is competent in geometry, and seems to just need a bit of help with algebra and arithmetic skills that go into solving problems. We didn't really get to spend a lot of time though!

Tutoring review by Nicole in Nevada
We worked on a review of the student's homework tonight. She was able to try to combine like terms, but she needs to circle the terms so that she doesn't miss the signs attached to the numbers (positive or negative). She did excellently with graphing, and was writing it all down as we went. She worked on finding the rule for a table independently as well.

Tutoring review by Melissa in Nevada
During tonight's session, he and I focused on the grammar concept "Past Real/Unreal Conditionals." His writing assignment for the week was to determine how the American Revolution would have been different if certain factors had changed. This necessitated extensive use of the past unreal conditional tense, with which both he and his mother (whose native language is Mandarin) needed further support. We discussed different ways in which we would use this and other conditional tenses and then used this knowledge to correct his homework assignment. By the final paragraph of his assignment, he was making almost all of the changes without any prompting. This shows me that he noticed incorrect patterns that he used in his first draft and understood how to fix them. Overall, our session was successful. I look forward to our next session.

Tutoring review by William in Nevada
We covered the concept of dividing fractions. Her main problem was factoring out fractions to simplify them. She thought it would be easier to multiply everything out and simplify it later, but we quickly learned that it is easier to factor at first in order to avoid having to multiply large numbers together. He was getting most of the problems correct (with a few small mistakes) and seemed comfortable with the material that was reviewed. Since she has a quiz this week, I told her to practice the night before for 20-30 minutes. I did not leave her any extra practice. When I asked her about any recent grades, she told me that she scored 100% on the homework that we reviewed during our last session (a huge win!). Also, she is starting to naturally slow down and check her work to avoid making small mistakes.

Tutoring review by Allison in Nevada
First, we worked on reading and following instructions with an activity outdoors using sidewalk chalk where the student had to draw certain things depending on what different cards said. Then, we read a book about the desert and checked for comprehension as we went. His comprehension is pretty good. Then, we quizzed each other on details from the book to further check for comprehension. Next, we played the dots and boxes game using new sight words. Finally, I asked him to choose five sight words and write them. I used this as an opportunity to work on his handwriting, which is improving. His recall and memory are very good, and he is detail-oriented about things that interest him.

Tutoring review by Tracey in Nevada
The student did really well on subtracting mixed numbers review. We were able to finish that page and start working on multiplying fractions, which is the last page of the review packet. She should be able to finish it on Thursday with no problem.
