Tutoring review by Jules in North Richland Hills, TX
Today we reviewed geometry including how to find the area and perimeter of quadrilaterals and triangles both forwards and backwards (i.e. he was given the area/perimeter and the length of one side, and had to calculate the length of the other side based on this information). We also worked on his basic math skills (timed addition quiz). He did very well today.

The student and I reviewed some fundamental math for her upcoming ACT. We went over algebra 2 trig, geometry, and basic algebra, as well as understanding word problems and how to set up equations based on word problems. She seemed a little stressed, but I think she is going to do better than she anticipates. I have 5 sets of about 15 questions each and we got through three of them. I told her to look over the other two before her ACT. We found that she knew geometry but just needed a refresher on the vocabulary of it all.

The student completed 3 lessons in the Virtual School, covering polynomials. First we reviewed how to add and subtract like terms. She has strong understanding of positive and negative numbers. I taught her that a negative sign is "stuck" to its number. The terms coefficient, constant, variable, standard form, associative and distributive properties were studied. Lesson 2 brought more practice in combining like terms. Here, polynomials were used when finding perimeters of shapes (adding up all the side lengths). The student did a great job working independently and scored 100% on a 5-question quiz. Lesson 3 Exponents and Multiplying Polynomials taught rules for exponents and scientific notation. She learned to use the FOIL method for multiplying 2 binomials. She saw that negative exponents means change to the reciprocal. The score for this lesson quiz was another 100% for 5 multiple choice questions. Lastly, a more comprehensive quiz covering recent topics yielded a score of 78% for 7 correct answers out of 9. Moving forward, the next lesson is a Unit test. She is confident in her ability to tackle this assessment.

Tutoring review by Matjaz in North Richland Hills, TX
Today we solved several problems including division of rational expressions. These included polynomials, that we factored. Furthermore, we solved word problems including rates and percentage increase and decrease, as well as geometry problems including a polygon that had a circle inscribed to it. The student is well versed in algebra 1, has a good hold on the new topics, and is fast in factoring by educated guessing. She is overall absorbing the new materials very quickly.

Tutoring review by Chloe in North Richland Hills, TX
The student started by reading her sight words. She read her reading book for school. This book was bigger and had harder words in it, so I think she was a little intimidated to begin with. She struggled reading it the first time. The second time, we choral read together. We worked on her fluency. By the third time, she was reading much better than she was the first round. We ended by her going over her sight words.
