Tutoring review by Meredith in Mill Creek, WA
The student and I created a table so that she could evaluate the differences and similarities between arithmetic, geometric and quadratic sequences. She recalled the arithmetic and geometric recursive formulas with ease. She also remembered the quadratic formulas. After building a table, we did a couple of example problems with quadratics. We did a free fall problem and then two quadratic growth problems. She did very well with these.

Tutoring review by Tami in Mill Creek, WA
This was my first session with the student. He is a very attentive student and only needs someone to guide him and retrain his approach to math problems. We discussed a homework assignment from his teacher covering common denominators, interpreting grafted data, and variable expressions. The student is able to complete steps as laid out by his teacher. However, if the question changes slightly or he is asked to reverse-engineer the problem, he runs into a few glitches. He understands the how and what of the math problems, but not the why. Without fully understanding why the steps are taken in a certain order, he is unable to start in the middle of the solving process or work backwards He also admitted that he doesn't really remember common denominator, so we practiced equivalent fractions and number factors. He also struggled a bit when asked to compete multi-step problems. We talked about reading the question first, then reading the details of the problem and reading the question once more before starting to work a problem. This will be a good way for him to identify which problems are multi-step..
