I believe the student is prepared for his test tomorrow. We reviewed confidence intervals, and he brought practice problems that the test will be similar to. We will meet again next Wednesday before his next test.

Tutoring review by Jeremy in Euless, TX
Today the student and I worked on her algebra packet as well as a new chapter on ratios. She understands that ratios are very similar to fractions. She proved to show strong understanding of this chapter, so we moved a chapter ahead, to simplifying ratios and creating equivalents. This chapter was more difficult for her. I tried using manipulatives and real-life examples until the student understood the concepts. We even discussed keeping items within ratio when creating a recipe for more than the listed "serving size" . Should the recipe call for a 8 person serving, and we wanted to double the serving size, we would have to double all the ingredient amounts. When she took her time, she was able to successfully reach the answer without assistance/verbal cues. I explained to her that to reach an equivalent ratio, all that had to be done was multiply both ratio numbers by the same factor/divide the number by the same factor number. Dividing by the same factor cannot happen when the ratio is in its most simplest form, but can easily be done when in an equivalent representative of the simplest ratio. The student had fun with this chapter as it tested her critical thinking. She specifically enjoyed the algebra section as it reminds her of a "puzzle". It was a pleasure to work with the student this evening.

The student and I continued progressing through his online schoolwork. In algebra, we learned and practiced proportions involving maps. In English, we read a new short story and analyzed the author's opinions provided in the story. Last, we worked on science that reviewed concepts of concentration and diffusion.

Tutoring review by Mark in Euless, TX
The student had a homework assignment to characterize one of many multivariate analyses. In our session, we discussed linear regression and multiple linear regression in depth. I described how to interpret a linear regression equation, and how to interpret the T and F statistics associated with the analysis. We also discussed interpretation of residuals and how they can reveal trends in the data that can alter how an analysis is interpreted. We then reviewed how to calculate predicted values using the regression equation; how to calculate residuals; and how to plot raw, predicted, and residual data.
