Tutoring review by Sara in Waukegan, IL
The student & I went over a lesson regarding transformation of polygons from her text and completed a set of problems involving plotting translations, rotations, and reflections on a 2-D coordinate axes grid. She has a strong kinesthetic/visiospatial proclivity to this material but still had trouble with synthesizing and generalizing across forms of transformation equations and vectors. This plays into critical thinking, which has been an underlying skill I have been working with her on across her assignments, so we are working on it.

Tutoring review by Jonathan in Waukegan, IL
The student and I began this session by discussing his performance on his most recent quiz, on which he had scored a B+. We looked through the quiz together to identify where we were missing points and how we could address those situations if a similar problem showed up on the test. Overall, though, the student did well on this quiz, and I hope to help him continue this upward trend. We then continued our plan to move ahead of the class by detailing the last section in chapter 11. This last section dealt with rational expressions, in which the student was tasked with solving for a given variable using concepts discussed throughout the chapter. I emphasized the relationship between this section with fractions and polynomials, and he was quick to pick up on these ideas thanks to his understanding of the previous sections. We concluded our session by working through combined work word problems.

The student and I reviewed for his upcoming test, which covers the last new material before the final. We went over completing the square in order to convert conic equations from general to standard form. We also discussed how to differentiate between parabolas, hyperbolas, and ellipses. The easiest way to distinguish shapes when given an equation is to determine how many squared terms there are, whether the signs match, and whether the coefficients match.

Tutoring review by Lloyd in Waukegan, IL
The student and I reviewed his English assignment. The exercise involved compound sentences with independent and subordinate clauses. He had to write appropriate subordinate clauses, and he did quite well on his own. He only needed a few minor corrections in the wording. I also worked with the students on some math word problems. They both had a good understanding of how to interpret the word problems into mathematical calculations. We also discussed several words that sound the same but have very different meanings.

Tutoring review by Christopher in Waukegan, IL
We covered triangles, quadrilaterals, and rationalizing radicals. The student got all of the answers right; she just needs to have more confidence in her answers. She was very open and receptive to new concepts. I showed her some little shortcuts to check her work. I'm sure she will continue to do well in the class.
