Tutoring review by Manuel in New Braunfels, TX
I worked with Student 1 first on proofs and radicals. The material on proofs required utilizing "perpendicular bisector" rules to prove isosceles triangles. As with previous proof questions, she needs to become a bit more familiar with the nuances but her conceptualization of the material is good. These will become more comfortable for her as we continue to practice them. Radicals are not an issue for her; she's more of a natural when it comes to manipulation of radicals. After that, I worked with Student 2 on physics and math. For physics, we reviewed his lab, which involved circuits. He has a good understanding of parallel and series circuits, so the material in the lab was not difficult for him. We finished with math, covering parametric equations, parabolas and end behavior. He had not learned equations involving ellipses and hyperbolas, so we worked through some problems together. He did very well with parabolas and end behavior.

We are starting to go over inductive/ deductive reasoning. The student had more practice with conditional statements and logical equalities. Showing work on his homework is the only struggle at the moment, which isn't a huge deal since the homework is still just practice for him. He seems to enjoy this material as it is mostly just logical problem solving. I reiterated for him to work slowly and write down ALL of his work. I left him with 3 homework assignments to do for our next session. He turned in a practice test to me, and he was able to solve most of it, over 90% of the problems. I am still impressed with his curriculum over all, going over these logic based statements this early is awesome. Overall, he is still showing that he is a bright student, and the practice we are doing should develop an even better work ethic for him.

I spent this session largely going over distribution and how to solve linear equations that involve it. I also helped the student some with her basic multiplication skills, and worked for a short while on vocabulary with her. For practice, I told her to finish making her vocab flash cards, and to fill out a multiplication table once a day.

The student is doing well. We went over his essays. He generally has good examples and support for them. We then practiced all sections of the test.

Today, we did more word problems involving with setting up equations using two variables. I saw big improvements as the student understood how to solve the problems and more importantly did the problems fairly quickly. We did these problems from a packet she had and she will review the problems.

The student and I spent most of the time going over her homework. Her homework mainly consisted of finding the integral of various types of functions and applying them to physics scenarios. These scenarios included the distance traveled given a velocity function, finding the velocity and displacement given an acceleration function, and others. She was having some trouble with the difference with indefinite and definite integrals but quickly became more familiar with them. She and I plan to meet again Monday or Tuesday again before her final next week.
