The student and I worked today on graphing the coordinate plane. I also reviewed some probability. She is a bit nervous about her upcoming SOLs. I encouraged her to spend time reviewing online.

Today, we covered the reading portion of the new SAT. The student did not seem to have any problems with any of the material presented today. I touched briefly on process of elimination as a way of arriving at answers in multiple choice exams. I assigned him the reading sample questions in the book as extra practice to do by next week.

Tutoring review by Allison in Bowie, MD
Today, we went over a review for the student's upcoming midterm. He is going to do well on his midterm. He is very quick to figure out what the problem is asking and what method to go about in solving the problem. The most difficult part of solving these problems is diagnosing them/figuring out exactly what they are asking the student to do, and he is really good at this. As long as he commits the necessary theorems and postulates to memory, he should have no problem on his upcoming exam.

Tutoring review by Leeanne in Bowie, MD
In this session, the student and I focused on preparing her for an upcoming exam covering collisions and momentum. We went through several common problems covering these topics. This material in particular is difficult because it not only covers momentum but requires the use of many previously covered concepts to find the necessary information to solve the conservation of momentum equations. So, I made it a point to walk through problems that also required the use of conservation of energy, kinematics, and the work-kinetic energy theorem, as those are very commonly asked problems on exams. I gave her tips on keywords and phrases to look for when trying to determine which concepts needed to be used, which seemed to help her be able to figure out the problems independently. I'm very confident she will do well on the upcoming exam.

Tutoring review by Erin in Bowie, MD
The student has 2 upcoming tests, each that will last two days due to the amount of questions. We started to review his math subjects starting from the first chapter covered in the class. We worked through a page of problems per each chapter. He likes to do math in his head, which impresses me. I encouraged him to write problems down when needed to avoid error from doing math solely in his head.
