Tutoring review by Julia in Burlington, NJ
The student began by taking the test for Unit 4 in the Social Studies course, scoring 100% correct answers for 22 questions. He understands the conflicts and characters that shaped the United States during the late 1800s. He recalled details about labor unions struggling to bring fair wages and decent work conditions, and that there is "power in numbers." Concepts from this unit include: conservation, national parks, free press, socialism, Progressive movement, immigration, and the growth of cities. Unit 5 consisted of writing a short essay on a topic of choice. He chose to discuss socialism. He wrote bullet notes, composed a thesis statement and wrote a 3-paragraph essay. Unit 6: A New Century began with a lesson about Theodore Roosevelt. He enjoyed learning about this very unique individual. He scored 100% for Lesson 1. Unit 6, Lesson 2: The Spanish American war was a short lesson with a 2-question quiz. He worked independently and earned 100%. Then he completed Lesson 3: Wanting More. The United States continued to grow by adding territories including Alaska and Hawaii. Again, he earned 100% on the Lesson 3 quiz. He likes Social Studies and remembers facts he has learned. He is able to verbally tell about the topics by memory.

Tutoring review by ManHua in Burlington, NJ
During this session, we worked on understanding rational functions and graphing those functions. We went over the general concepts of the section before reviewing the homework problems. The student was quick to grasp the concepts, but she had a few minor questions while doing the homework problems. The questions were cleared up, and I believe that by the end of the session, she had a much stronger grasp of the material for that section.

Tutoring review by Vincent in Burlington, NJ
Today, the student had a review over classifying rational functions. For the most part, she had understood the material, but had some questions about how to determine certain features from a graph, such as holes. After I talked her through one of the questions on her review, she applied the knowledge to the rest of it and did well. Afterward, I had her define the horizontal and vertical asymptotes, as well as the holes, zeroes and intercepts of a series of rational functions. She was able to solve them all. Afterward, we went over some questions that she had over acid-base chemistry, and she was able to apply the knowledge to a print-out test that she had received in class.

We went over unit conversions from cals to juls using unit conversion formulas, did some balancing of chemical equations, and went over the student's homework. He mentioned that not writing significant figures and units on answers is where he was losing the most points. We will continue to address this as we work on the practice problems.

The students and I practiced more reading passages. At this point, we are reviewing high difficulty level problems, and they are doing quite well. We also worked on Writing, where I feel they still have room to improve.

Tutoring review by Eric in Burlington, NJ
We covered finding the anti-derivative of a derivative. This involved finding a particular solution of the given derivative or determining the complete anti-derivative (solving of the constant). The student could handle solving using the power rule, but struggled when the form changed to ln(x) of sin/ cos functions. He worked through his homework assignment and at the end he had a better understanding of how to use the known particular forms to solve each type of problem.
