The student and I discussed how is important for us to keep up tutoring on Sundays (even if it feels like sometime he might not need it) so that there is consistent practice in doing problems and thinking strategically about math class. He had two review sheets and homework that led up to a quiz he is having on Tuesday. The topics covered were properties of exponents/simplifying exponents and evaluating polynomial functions. After some clarifying points and questions and answers, both he and I felt confident that he was prepared for the test, could complete his homework, and understood the concepts.

During this session, geometry homework was reviewed, which included finding measurements of angles, congruent triangle postulates, and intersecting lines.

We did a general review before the student's exam. We covered rational equations and quadratic formula.

The student is continuing to work through the conics chapter. She did not fare as well as hoped on the quiz that covered ellipses and parabolas. We reviewed each problem where points were taken off, she reworked all over those particular problems. The next part of the chapter covering hyperbolas, the student indicated she understood very well and that was evident when she worked on the homework from that section. She was able to set up and work out the exercises from the homework set without trouble.

Today we solved various practice problems in preparation for the student's upcoming exam. We discussed matched pairs design, confidence intervals, and computing a t-statistic.

The student and I continued to work on the chapter of conic sections. While we only worked on the basics last week, this week we went more in-depth particularly with parabolas. She struggled a little bit with finding the equation of a parabola or other information based on the equation given. Her steps were correct, but there was some confusion that I was able to clear up. She also had some difficulty with the word problems, but had almost no trouble after I explained the idea for a couple of word problems.
