Tutoring review by Rashmi in Lancaster, CA
Today I met the students and assessed them on their math skills. Both of them seem to be struggling with long division. They need to be retaught the skills which are prerequisite for their progress in grade level. Homework was assigned on long division.

Tutoring review by Kori in Lancaster, CA
Completed a homework assignment on multiplying fractions. The student learned two tricks to make simplifying the final product easier: (1) cancelling out similar terms across one numerator and the other denominator and (2) simplifying the fractions as much as possible before calculating the product. Then practiced adding and subtracting mixed numbers with differing denominators in preparation for a make-up test. She has become better at making common denominators, but she uses the product of the two denominators instead of finding the LCM. She also needs to practice her multiplication tables.

The student got a 7 of 8 on his Science Homework quiz and he got a 39 of 40 and an A+ on a Math Quiz. We worked on a science worksheet on the ease of losing electrons and metallic properties. He has a quiz on Friday in science. We reviewed the octet rule to help decide if elements will react with each other. The student worked very had and concentrated on his work.

Tutoring review by Emily in Lancaster, CA
For this session, I went through some of the student's past math work and picked out the topic of each problem she missed. For the most part, she's doing very well, but she seems to struggle with word problems, especially word problems of three steps or more. We worked our way through several word problems I created for her, and I'm going to try to find and/or create some more for her. I'm sticking mostly to word problems dealing with decimals, geometry, and creating equations, since these are all topics she's having a little trouble with as well. My intention is to get her progressing in these subjects while at the same time increasing her confidence in word problems.

Tutoring review by Michael in Lancaster, CA
The student told me that the test involved solving inequalities and graphing them on a number line. We practiced solving a few equations and used the process as a scaffold for solving inequalities. I gave him some real-life examples, " Where no minors are allowed, forbidden is 'f is less than 21', but allowed is 'a is equal to or greater than 21.' " I showed him how the one difference between equations and inequalities is that, when isolating the variable by multiplying or dividing by a negative coefficient, the direction of the inequality symbol reverses, because a negative sign can be interpreted as "the opposite of _ ." He seemed to feel relieved at having a much better grasp of the subject at the conclusion of our session.
