Tutoring review by Amy in Lauderhill, FL
The student had a positive attitude throughout the entire session. She worked hard and stayed very focused. I discussed with her on her math homework. It was multiplying fractions and whole numbers. She did a great job understanding the process, or the steps to follow to solve the problem, but she struggled with comprehending the actual concept of what it was she was doing or what the process meant. She did a great job using the white board and counting chips to show what it was she was solving. We finished reviewing her homework and then worked on some multiplication practice. She said that she passed her 8's multiplication test and will be working on 9's so we practiced 9's. We looked for patterns in the numbers and the answers. She said she learns best from songs, so I told her I'd look up a song for next time to help her. Overall, I feel it was a very successful session. I look forward to continuing to work with her.

Tutoring review by Danielle in Lauderhill, FL
The student and I went over fractions, specifically recognizing the difference between multiplying a whole number by a fraction and turning a mixed number into an improper fraction. We also went over how to draw pictures of the concepts and then check it with the equations. She is really good with fractions. She made a couple of minor mistakes, but she was great at recognizing when she was making them after I reminded her to be aware of them. She has really great number sense--she can easily do the math with the fractions. We will continue to practice conceptualizing the problems.

Tutoring review by Chloe in Lauderhill, FL
The student did very well reading today. She read with fluency and personality. She was saying how she struggles with sight words so I'm going to start making her sight word flashcards to review with her. We answered a comprehension question for reading. We went over her spelling words. She did jumping jacks while spelling her words and also wrote all the words together without spaces to help memorize her spelling.

The student and I worked on a review package involving drawing Lewis structures, classifying single and multiple bonds, counting lone pairs of electrons, evaluating polarity, writing half reactions of oxidation-reduction reactions to identify oxidized and reduced species, predicting products of single and double replacement reactions, neutralizing charges by adding subscript for each compound, balancing reactions, and writing net ionic equations by evaluating solubility of each compound.

Tutoring review by Donnetta in Lauderhill, FL
Today, I brought in a worksheet with ratios, finding LCMs and GCFs, and word problems. The student finished the worksheet quickly, so I decided to pull some review problems from her book to work on. I think the next chapter she will be working on is rates, so I did not introduce that to her. I left her a new rule for finding the LCM that she thought was very helpful. For next week, I will bring in problems with fractions, ratios, and word problems.
