Certified Tutor
I would describe myself as a person who has an ongoing love of learning and teaching, especially social sciences topics (world civilization, history, government and economics). I also enjoy teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) / EFL (English as a Foreign Language) because of the gratification of assisting students to enhance their personal and professional lives by improving their English language skills.
I earned a PhD from Rutgers University in Global Affairs, an MA from Columbia University in Regional Studies in Eastern Europe (focus on politics and economics) and a BA from New York University in History and Journalism. I have taught for over 10 years at colleges in the greater New York City area and volunteered for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer to teach in Ukraine in the International Relations Department, Odessa National University. In addition, I have an ESL equivalent certificate and have enjoyed working with ESL and EFL students in Italy, Ukraine, Michigan, New York and New Jersey.
My tutoring style is characterized by engaging students and making it a very personalized and tailored experience.
Im looking forward to meeting, working with and getting to know students who would benefit from tutoring in any of the socials science, ESL/EFL and college students who are planning to take the GRE or need assistance in writing college essays.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I am always striving to make my interaction with students a dynamic and meaningful experience. Every student has specific goals and needs, so my first task is to quickly understand and assess what the student's main objective is and where he/she has had challenges or wants additional support. Moreover, my teaching style has always been to create an engaging, welcoming and dynamic environment. This includes keeping a session fast-paced so it is time well spent. Furthermore, when possible, I work on developing a student's writing and analytical skills, both of which are important for academic success and can be more easily addressed on a one-on-one basis.
