I majored in Economics with a minor in Actuarial Mathematics at the University of Maryland. I'm currently working towards a fellowship with the Casualty Actuary Society, so I work with math every day! Actuaries use math to manage risk, whether it's for an insurance company, a pension fund, or a bank.
I know first-hand that math is very useful! My goal is for students to develop a conceptual understanding of the math they're learning, so they can understand what the formulas are doing and how they might apply in the real world. Beyond that, the key is practice, practice, practice!
Besides doing a lot of math, I'm an avid reader who likes to stay active, so you might find me in the gym, running, or reading a book outside.
