Ayalibis: Markham tutor

Certified Tutor

Hello everyone, my name is Ayalibis. I am 24 years old. I graduated from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. I received my bachelor's of Arts Languages and Cultures with a track in Spanish. I also have a minor in linguistics. As an undergrad student I worked as a Spanish tutor for the tutorials services on campus as well as a Conversational Partner for the department of Languages and Cultures. As a Spanish tutor for the university, I tutor all the Spanish levels from Spanish 1 up to the 400 level courses for about 3 years. Students will sign up so they can improve mostly on their grammatical skills as well as reading and speaking. While working for the department as a conversational partner, I helped students with their pronunciation and to feel more comfortable speaking the language. I spoke mostly in Spanish to them, but I pace my speaking so they could understand me and ask me questions about what I was saying. Sometimes I asked them to translate what I said or asked them to tell me what they understood in general and this gave me an idea on how to help them accordingly. I suggested some of those students try to watch their favorite tv shows or series in Spanish with the subtitles in English as well as to find music and other ways they could listen and practice the language more. I enjoy helping others so they understand and know more about the Spanish language and it's beautiful culture. I loved to see other students just coming to the office so they could practice their conversational skills and feel safe, since my only intention is and always will be to help you become more proficient in the language. I am excited to help you all learn more about this beautiful language. Learning a second language and becoming proficient in it is such a great tool for any career path you have chosen. An early teaching experience I had was during my Fall 2019 semester. I taught First and second grade students Spanish 1 introductory class for a catholic school. I taught them for an entire semester from September through December. Some of the topics I went over were: the alphabet, colors, numbers, shapes, objects, months of the year, days of the weeks, seasons of the years, places they could visit with family members etc, simple phrases so they could introduce themselves and answers questions based on what we were working in class. All I want to do is help those interestested in learning a new language. I can't wait to meet you all and learn from each other.
