Certified Tutor

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language and a Master's Degree in Education.
I grew up in mainland China and speak Mandarin fluently with no accent. I'm a licensed Chinese teacher in China and I also have a certificate of Mandarin Proficiency Test from The Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.
With over 16 years Mandarin teaching experience, I have taught hundreds of students spanning from Pre-K to adults. I began my teaching career in a Chinese language school in China, where I taught Chinese Reading, Writing and Speaking classes. While at university, I was a TA for the Chinese language and culture course and I also held Chinese tutoring sessions with students after class. I'm currently a Mandarin and Chinese culture teacher in a school in NY, teaching students in Chinese language while incorporating hands on activities, culture studies and traditional Chinese holiday events.
My teaching philosophy is totally student centered and I believe every student learns differently, therefore I will work to figure out the best learning style and make personal lesson plans for students based on their age, personalities, interests and learning goals. I don't teach just the Chinese language, I also include music, art, food and interesting cultural artifacts into the lessons to make the learning fun, and to help students understand the target language culture.
For students want to gain their conversational skills, my goal as a tutor is to instill confidence so my students can communicate in Chinese in their daily, academic and professional lives, they can manage most communication in Chinese when meeting with Chinese friends or families, or travelling/working/ studying in China, and for students who is learning Chinese for school or preparing for a test, I am dedicated to helping students improve their school performance and achieve their academic goals. I'm familiar with variety of the most popular Chinese textbooks for foreign language learners (beginner, intermediate and advanced level) such as the HSK standard course, new practical Chinese, integrated Chinese, Boya, Easy steps to Chinese, Conversational Chinese 301and etc.
I am passionate about sharing the Chinese culture and language with my students and find great satisfaction in seeing their progress.
Beyond the classroom, I really enjoy cooking Chinese food, ice skating and crafts.
