I am passionate about helping students learn to improve their reading and writing skills. From an early age, I yearned to teach others. and this desire drove my educational goals. While earning my BA from Vassar College and my MA from Utah State University, both in Literature and Writing, I received a lot of training and experience teaching English language and literature. At Vassar, I spent four years in the Education Department learning to teach in secondary classrooms, including in-class volunteer work and student teaching. At USU, as part of my training for my master's degree, I taught lower-division college-level English classes and tutored in the writing center.

I have been an online instructor for Brigham Young University-Idaho and Pathway Worldwide since 2016. My work there has included tutoring individual students and mentoring fellow English instructors. Both my students' and supervisors' reviews have consistently been positive. While working with Pathway, I received additional training and experience in English Language Learning and worked with students from all over the world in the classroom. I am also fluent in Spanish and have served as a volunteer teaching and serving in Spanish-speaking communities. Over the years, I have taught students of all ages to improve their writing skills and have confidence in their writing.

Another critical part of my experience has been working with students with disabilities. I have worked with disability resource centers on campuses since 2002 as a transcriber for students with hearing disabilities. As a mother of children with disabilities, I have advocated for accommodations for them and have attended many IEP meetings over the years. As an instructor, I have enthusiastically helped those in need of accommodations in my classroom.

I can tutor in a variety of subjects. My primary skills lie in reading and writing, mostly at a secondary or college level, though I could help younger students or adults in the community as well. I have helped students write essays and research papers on topics in English as well as in other fields such as Science and the Humanities. I can tutor on writing and reading basic Spanish. My favorite topics to tutor in English are children's literature, creative writing, folklore, and fiction because these topics are nearest and dearest to my heart. I am here for you.

I firmly believe anyone can learn to improve their reading and communication skills. Anyone at any age can learn to love reading and writing.

Hobbies

I love reading, writing, and drawing. I have taken several art classes and specialize in pencil-drawn portraiture, sketching, and some digital art. My favorite genres to read and write are children's fiction and romance. I have won awards for my short stories, poetry, creative nonfiction, and children's fiction. I also love spending time with my family. My whole family is working together on building up a self-publishing company. My son and I are working on two parallel chapter book series set in the same fictional town. I edit and illustrate his books about a team of super chickens, Just Us Chickens, while he helps me world-build for my books about kids and their super pets fighting off the apocalypse, Doomimals. My other child draws the covers and does some of the illustrations for our books. My husband will be working on the marketing. I'm also working on romance novels and writing and illustrating picture books.
