We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

I had my first session with the students.  They're both great, polite, smart kids- going to be a pleasure to work with.  Student 1 and I worked on her spelling homework and began studying for a Spanish test she has next week; Student 2 and I worked on revising a paper for his English class.

Today, the student and I went over Algebra 2. We finished off the chapter by doing what his book labeled 'work problems'. These were basically word problems with ratios. We then began the next chapter (10), which dealt with trig. The student did very well understanding the concepts and applicability of the basic trig functions (sin, cos, and tan).  I think the student surprised himself a little at how he did.

Practiced fleshing out a world based on the "write what you know" concept. The student is much more comfortable working in concrete, existing concepts, rather than in the abstract, so I think if we work outside of his comfort zone, he'll get more used to some of the less structured non-fiction, and be able to engage with fiction a little better.

The student and I worked this session on electrical energy: currents, voltage, power, circuit diagrams, etc. Then we reviewed his homework assignment. Throughout the session, one of our main focuses was solidifying the student's grasp of the relationships between power, energy, current, voltage, and time. I was impressed this session with the student's focus and effort.

Covered the other chapters of her test, mainly monopoly, which covered economies of scale and natural monopolies as well as price discrimination. Then we discussed game theory, some basics of it, including dominant strategies and Nash equilibrium, and then compared it to monopolistic competition and oligopolies.

Tutoring review by Brianna in Schaumburg, IL
We went over the student's assigned homework this evening. She only completed 1-30 of English, but did very well! She missed six questions. We worked through an English and a partial Science section as well, and it looks like we will review time management strategies there, as she didn't finish either section. For homework, I assigned the test three math section, as well as two short tests. I also gave the student a (shorter) list of equations to memorize before our next session. She is still struggling to keep area and perimeter equations straight, so there are a few of those, as well as other equations she needs to review.
