Continuing with the test prep guide, the student and I went through most of the prep section for reading comprehension questions today. For the most part, she does very well at determining answers from the context of the passages; however, she sometimes lets unfamiliar terminology confound her. Fortunately, we will soon address the issue of dealing with PSAT vocabulary, and that should help her overcome this obstacle.

We reviewed geometric concepts and worked the problems in a section of a practice test. We also discussed and reviewed reading comprehension passages. The student also completed a timed practice writing section, and we discussed different strategies to complete the timed writing section.

Worked on a bunch of different things with the student - first we did some vocab, then a few different reading sections, and then did some work with money. Then the student and I did a whole lot of math problems, and then I talked with the student's mother for a while about different tests he might need help studying for.

Went over problems the student missed on a recent practice test and discussed various techniques for approaching certain types of problems. Discussed the types of problems that still gave her problems, and found similar problems on another practice test for us to work on. Suggested she keep working on the practice test until our next session, and flag problems that give her trouble.

The student's semester exam is tomorrow. She gets to use a crib sheet, so part of our work was making sure that she had appropriate notes on the topics to be covered on the test. We also reviewed material as necessary, in the cases when she didn't recall certain topics that were listed as exam material. Toward the end of the session, we returned to logic, which presented a challenge last time; we were able to make more progress with it. She is still much more confident on all of the other topics.
