Tutoring review by Morgan in Maryland Heights, MO
Our focus today was using derivatives to find when a function is concave up and concave down as well as the graph's inflection points. We talked about the general process of determining increasing/decreasing and concave up/down, then went through a few of the questions that she had found difficult on her homework and quizzes. After working through a few problems together (and reviewing the chain, product, and quotient rules for taking derivatives), I had her work out a problem on her own as we discussed what to do for each step and why we did it. We ended with a quick review and planned to meet again on Thursday.

Tutoring review by Daniel in Maryland Heights, MO
We spent most of our session going over absolute value inequality problems. The student mostly knew how these problems worked, but was making a few small mistakes. We covered the proper way to solve these problems and all the complications to look out for. After that, she did not have much difficulty with that homework assignment. We were able to spend a little bit of time also on word problems that she had trouble with recently. The word problems just take a lot of practice to feel comfortable with. The best way is to keep working through problems together, talking about different ways to think about and solve the problem. We are planning on meeting again next Wednesday.

Tutoring review by Benedetto in Maryland Heights, MO
In our first session, we looked at functions and learned how to plot them. The student already knew how to plot points, but was not sure about the relationship between lines and equations, and between equations and the quantities they represent. So, I started with an example easier than those assigned to the student from the textbook, which had an economical meaning, i.e., the linear return on an investment. He was then able to follow on the arithmetic aspect of it.

Tutoring review by Kristof-Pierre in Maryland Heights, MO
This session was spent going through the student's old tests. It took him a little while to pick up at the beginning of the course, and some of his earlier grades weren't as great. A lot of the things he understands now, but there were a couple problems he needed help with. I have noted the types of questions and will go over it again at a later point.

Tutoring review by Michael in Maryland Heights, MO
The student and I did a review of the new concepts she is covering in her class. We focused primarily on inverse trig. functions. I gave a detailed explanation of what they are in relation to regular trigonometric functions as well as the different approaches to the problems she may encounter. We revisited the unit circle and special right triangles to solidify the foundation she needs to do well on her quiz.

Tutoring review by Reyanna in Maryland Heights, MO
The student and I worked on her review sheet for her quiz on Wednesday. She did very well, and we spent a lot of the time working on the more difficult concepts. We made sure to do a few examples of each type of problem that would be on her quiz. I also gave her some more examples to work through on Wednesday morning so that she remembers how to do the problems when she takes her quiz. I feel pretty confident that she will do well on her quiz.
