Tutoring review by Andrew in Derby, CT
We prepared for her final test by going through some of the test prep questions. This test focused on logarithms and how to work with their expansion and solving. We focused on the phrase: "the base becomes the base the end becomes the exponent and what's left goes last." This is a way to solve the questions and she commented that it was a better way of remembering.

Tutoring review by Rajiv in Derby, CT
We covered much more general concepts, problems, and details about the class than actual material. Since the student went from honors geometry to his current geometry class, he has gone from allocating an enormous amount of time to a minuscule amount of time. While he is more than capable of handling the material, the lack of practice mainly affects his confidence on test day. When he sees a test problem, his mind kicks into honors geometry mode and assumes it is very difficult and must have, say, 15 steps to the solution or it can't be right. I will work on building some pseudo tests for him so he can have more specifically geared timed practice that is relevant to this class.

Tutoring review by Patrick in Derby, CT
This student is most certainly a bright student. At 16, too, he possesses a mature character and is quite receptive to working together. After discussing the breakdown of his last ACT composite score, we focused today's session on math and science, as his lowest scores were in those two categories, and a little reading comprehension. Our session was very productive, and I look forward to future ones with him. I am confident that with some consistency and practice, he will be able to elevate his composite score to 30 or higher.

Tutoring review by Channah in Derby, CT
The student and I spent the session reviewing geometry. There were many tough problems she could get through with some small hints. She was preoccupied with formulas and had the most trouble with word problems, so I am going to try and help her think outside the box. The next session we will move forward to some tougher concepts in geometry and touch upon algebra. I think she mainly just needs to practice more, as she has forgotten some material from previous years' math classes.

Tutoring review by David in Derby, CT
The student and I went over her preparation for the next geometry test. She has an upcoming exam and was feeling uncomfortable with the review material. Fortunately, by steadily walking through the examples, we were able to reach a point where she felt confident with the various rules that relate to parallel lines crossed by a transverse line. Towards the end of the meeting, she was confident in the material and felt much more comfortable with the topics.

Tutoring review by Marco in Derby, CT
We reviewed some of what we covered last week, then we practiced differentiation of elementary functions as well implicit differentiation. We practiced derivatives of a^x, e^x, ln(x), and log(x) as well as derivatives of inverse trigonometric functions. After working through a few practice problems, we went into implicit differentiation, focusing on the idea of applying chain rule to y(x). After we finished some practice computations, we covered some theorems of elementary calculus, most notably the Mean Value Theorem. We covered everything up to the midterm and now only a little more practice to solidify everything is needed.
