This session was devoted to the following: study skills, I worked with the student to figure out a study schedule that he could stick to for the week. The key is reinforcing information that he is learning this semester, so that he retains in way past tests and quizzes. This will help him as he approaches finals in a few months. Reading: we have continued our reading of "Lord of the Flies." We spent some time on reading comprehension and written comprehension questions. He struggled to elaborate his thinking with critical thinking responses. I worked with him on using the text to assist him in giving more specific details to flesh out his thinking

We covered the very basic math skills that we reviewed last week. The student is slowly improving but still has a lot of work to be done to truly master those skills.

The student's main goal with the Spanish language is to gain more fluency in a conversational context. We began by addressing tactics to improve fluency, such as watching Spanish language films and corresponding through email with certain people only in Spanish. Additionally, we discussed the various aspects of a language that one must listen for in order to fully understand what is being said. Specifically, that aside from knowing the definition of words, being familiar with and being able to audibly recognize verb conjugations allows one to be aware of who is being spoken about, whether the information is about the past, present, or future, and whether or not a question is being asked, or a statement is being made. He has a strong understanding of how to conjugate verbs in the present tense. Today, we also covered the conjugations for the preterit and imperfect, and the differences between the two. This was a relatively new topic for the student, however, he displayed an intuitive grasp on when to use each type of past tense. He should continue to work with the preterit and imperfect, both because they are very challenging concepts in Spanish and because many conversations are centered on action that has already taken place. Additionally, he should read and write as much as possible in order to continually expand his vocabulary.

Today we covered several examples of proofs of congruence of triangles using either SSS, ASA, or SAS theorems (postulates). We also explained how AAS theorem could work but how SSA would not work. The students are showing good understanding of geometry and are interested in developing proofs on their own. We also covered the basic postulates for numbers, including the distributive property (axiom) which they didn't cover in school. The students are well aware of the meaning of postulates and theorems and understand that these postulates are assumed self evident.

We began the session reviewing the full test the student had taken since last time. We then focused on critical reading strategies, specifically sentence completions. We did several practice sections of just sevens completion. We ended the session talking about general study and test strategies for the coming week.
