Meeting the student today was a pleasure. He is experiencing some difficulty in calculus two because, while he understand the concepts, there are sometimes trickier aspects added to the most basic of problems that have the potential to trip him up. In this session, we went through how to apply integration substitution tables in various permutations, some trigonometric substitution, and partial fractions. I left him with a cheat sheet on trigonometric substitution and the derivative chain of sine/cosine. I think that he had a good grasp of the partial fractions. We will continue to review the rest of the concepts and drill him before his test so that he will be best prepared to succeed in the class.

The student is doing very well with the current topics in class. She had already turned in her homework, so we worked on some practice problems dealing with proportions, similar triangles and sales tax and discounts.

The student worked on preparing a review sheet for her final exam. Her attitude was good as usual, and she was prepared and consistently focused for the duration of the session. We talked about some multiplication and division tricks that she can use with fractions, and I think she will continue to benefit from working on math fluency. I have also noticed that she seems to be relying on her calculator a bit less than when we started as well.

We worked on trigonometry this session. The student is learning about the unit circle and how to find the sine and cosine of angles. He also is learning how to convert degrees to radians. We worked through a sheet of study problems and talked about how to do the work. We finished the session with a quick chemistry overview. We talked about a few of the problems we'd looked at during our previous session, and I left a worksheet for him to practice with.

The student wrote a rough draft for an essay comparing the traits of Steve Jobs and Bud from "Bud Not Buddy." We looked at a commencement speech Steve Jobs gave about his own life and struggles. We also completed a little out of the student's math workbook on percentages and finding sales tax or a sales price.

We met to discuss what the student's subject matter for the year entails. We then went over word problems to strengthen his problem solving. I also brought worksheets to have him assess quadratic equations by first determining expectation of what a graph would look like, then graph the quadratic equation, then determining domain and range of the function.
