What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe all students can learn. A great teacher will determine how a student learns best and design lessons to meet the goal of educating the student according to his learning style and skill set.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Ask questions to assess the student's strengths and weaknesses in an effort to develop a plan of instruction that accomplishes the goals and needs.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Require the student to teach me the concepts taught after sufficient practice in an effort to help the student increase his confidence level.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Present concepts in an engaging manner using real life situations to spark interest in the mastering the concept.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would reteach the concept using a different instructional strategy with visual aids.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Allow them ample opportunities to dialogue about what they have read, pausing to ask questions and possibly complete graphic organizers with the details. Graphic organizers provide students with a visual of the contents of text which often help students recall information and decipher what the text is saying.
