I graduated from the University of Colo. with a combined B.A. Math/Physics degree, then went on to get an MSEE in
electrical engineering from CU. When I began tutoring college students in 2000, this method of learning was not as commonly used as today, and so I had to develop my own teaching methods for tutoring in many different situations(one on one, group, online) I also have tutored students from all backgrounds and all skill levels, as well as students with disabilities, (ADHD,dyslexia), and young students in middle and high school.
Aside from tutoring, I do occasional work in the electrical engineering field and as a hobby do the usual outdoor activities in Colorado.(hiking, skiing,biking). I enjoy seeing students excel in their learning experience and have tried to follow these Tutoring Goals:
-Never refuse to help a student who asks for help.
-Student's learning goals first, yours second.
-Do not give wrong answers. If you do not know an answer, help to find it.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Never refuse a student who asks for help.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get the student's background(major, current class grades, and intentions for passing the class).
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By relating subject matter to the student's current interests.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Try several different perspectives of visualizing a problem.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Suggest other methods (visual or graphical).
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Do not lecture the course as a professor would.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
By relating the material to the student's background experience and their field.
