Certified Tutor
I am very excited to work with varsity tutors. As the oldest of four children I was always asked to help with homework and studying for exams. I found that I love teaching people how to learn; the light that turns on in a student's brain when they finally grasp a difficult concept is very rewarding. I am passionate about math and sciences, and received my Ph.D. earlier this year in Genetics and Molecular Biology. Throughout my life from a very young age I have been helping peers and mentoring younger students from middle school all the way to medical students. I am excited to help teach the more difficult STEM subjects to those who need it most.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Flashcards, practice questions, talking about theoretical questions, and asking a lot of "Well, given that we know this, what if...?"
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Flash cards, notes, YouTube videos, and practice questions.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I try to make a similar analogy outside of the subject to see how the student is approaching the problem at hand. Then, I bring it back around to the actual problem.
