What is your teaching philosophy?

My goal as a tutor is to instill confidence and a deep understanding of the particular subject. My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However, my teaching style is based on encouraging all of my students to think for themselves, using real-world examples. I begin with topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence grows. I use questions and homework to evaluate understanding continually.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In the first session with a student, I would analyze that particular student's weakness and prepare a plan to strengthen all of his or her weak points.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I will keep the goals high, but attainable. I believe challenging students is the best way to maintain a high effort level while simultaneously pushing them beyond their academic limitations.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would analyze the reason for the student's struggles with the particular subject and then break down the difficult concept to a more comprehensible one for the student.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I encourage those students to take notes, search for context clues, summarize each paragraph and find the general main idea of the story.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

The strategies that I found to be most successful is creating quizzes and exams to test the student's knowledge of the content learned. Overall, a test reveals how comfortable that particular student is with the subject and also evaluates their level of comprehension.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would try to make the session more interactive and fun by incorporating activities appropriate to the particular subject.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would assign quizzes and exams at the end of each topic reviewed in order to test the student's understanding of the material.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I build students' confidences in subjects by highlighting their successes for each question they answer correctly and efficiently. Additionally, I encourage them to continuously practice until mastery of the subject.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I evaluate students' needs by administering pre-tests and multiple exams and quizzes. I review the scores and evaluate the student's needs based on those scores.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I carefully analyze what the student needs the most help with and structure a lesson plan to target those needs as quickly as possible.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

During a tutoring session, I usually use workbooks and interactive academic apps to help the students stay engaged.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help a student become an independent learner by encouraging them to think for themselves by applying the Socratic method to each of my tutoring sessions.
