What is your teaching philosophy?

Students should feel free to explore their subjects. I believe in immersive teaching, not lecturing. Students should feel free asking questions.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Ask questions about hobbies, and what they do in their free time in order to develop anecdotes and out of the box scenarios that connect with a student's personal life in order to accelerate their achievement

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Students will learn how to teach the subject, not just answer questions on a test.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I find that students always have a connection or an ambition that every class will help them achieve. Their motivation will come from their own lives.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

My students will feel free asking questions, and I will find a way to connect every question to their personal lives in order to help them understand the subject in their own terms

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Comprehension is different for every student. They will explore different methods of approaching comprehension, and students will constantly be engaged in learning.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Students like to learn from their own lives. I connect every topic to the student's life and interests in order to foster an interest in the subject at hand.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Success is exciting, and I will make sure to foster success and support every success with praise, and any failure that may ensue will be met with absolute support and a readiness to continue their learning. Success should feel good, and the word failure should be forgotten. Failure is just a negative word for learning a less effective approach.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

The student will teach me. If I don't understand what they're explaining well enough, then we will continue working.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Every student is different, and their confidence should come from the excitement of their success. I will never let a student think they aren't good enough.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I think a student's needs will be evident in their feelings about their work and how their work comes out. I want them to feel comfortable talking more than I do in order to ensure that they understand the material, and if they feel like they aren't knowledgeable about a subject, and they aren't able to explain to me what they've learned, then more work is needed.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Every student is different, and I will adapt to every student type by reaching out to them and asking them what they think is helping and what's not. I want to learn from the students while they learn from me.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I will ask before the session for the work that the student is working on, and then I will use that work to develop a lesson plan for the session in order to get the most out of it.
