Jaye: Delaware County tutor
Certified Tutor
I suppose I've been tutoring most of my life! As the oldest of 6 siblings who were homeschooled, I got a lot of practice being a homework helper and tutor. I continued as a high school peer tutor and volunteered at the local elementary schools. As a parent with a homeschooled child I honed my skills further. I was first employed as a tutor after earning my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Fresno Pacific University. Now I have earned a Master of Arts in Communication from The Ohio State University and am once again looking forward to engaging with students.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The first session is a typical 'getting to know you' session. We would take a look at the student's goals so we are on the same page. Then I would go over the texts or materials the student is already using to familiarize myself. Finally, I would try to assess the prior knowledge and level of the student in order to plan future lessons and collect useful resources.
