Certified Tutor
Hi! I'm Lilly, and I'm a student at Amherst College. When I graduate, I'll have a double major in Computer Science and Studio Art.
As one who was raised in a very low income household, I never had much access to tutoring programs. Any help I got was from my older brothers, and while they did their best, sometimes the educational struggle was very real. As a result of my own struggles, I developed a passion for teaching.
At Amherst, I work as a Telementor. In this position, I am matched with a number of low income high school seniors, and I help them navigate the college application process. I help them brainstorm, write, format, revise, and edit their essays, help navigate actual applications, write resumes, figure out financial aid, etc. This really fueled my passion for helping students realize their potential. Similarly, working as a Teaching Assistant for Introductory Computer Science, I learned that while every student learns differently and has different struggles, every single one has the potential to be great at whatever they strive to do. Sometimes all they need is someone to recognize their individual needs, point them in the right direction, and support them along the way.
It is my belief that education is meant to be both challenging and fun. Often the fun is hidden behind the confusion and frustration of not understanding the subject matter. That's why I'm here - to help make things clear. As a Telementor and a TA, I've received training in ACT prep as well as in tutoring
introductory computer science in Java and Python. In my free time, in addition to being a major geek who DMs two D&D campaigns, I love to speak. I love giving speeches, presentations, performing monologues, poetry, or whatever other opportunity is thrown at me. I also have a passion for writing. I've even written a few books!
Other than that, I love art, reading, binge watching some Netflix and anime, fencing, and exploring nature with my friends.
I look forward to meeting you, getting to know you, and working with you to overcome your academic challenges so that you may continue to thrive!
