Certified Tutor

I developed a passion for helping students reach their full potential as an undergraduate student interested in variety of professional disciplines. I wanted to use my skills and experience to help other students improve their academic work. Prior to graduation, I wanted to work in one of the following fields: social work writing and editing, or education. After graduation, I spent five years working in social work and four years as a freelance writer. I am now transiting to into education as a tutor and teacher. My classroom experience started in college as an America Reads tutorial program member. I tutored elementary students in reading and high school students in math. Half of my social work experience included the opportunity for me to give presentations to students at the elementary, middle and high school levels. I had the opportunity to lead classroom activities, assist students with problem-solving, and administer a post-test to ensure the retention of information. I received my education at Saint Louis University and graduated with a bachelors degree in English and a bachelors degree in Theatre. This year I plan to pursue a Masters in Education. I currently tutor English, writing, reading, literature, and associated subjects. My favorite subject to tutor is writing because I enjoy the process of English composition and can make strong recommendations on how to improve essays. My teaching philosophy is that every student deserves access to a quality education that matches their learning style. My tutoring style is discussion-based, in which the student and I have a dialogue on the various strategies for improving academic work. My interest outside of academia include reading, writing and theatre.
